Reflection Essay Science and Technology

In my own opinion, science and technology have changed the world as well as influenced

a lot of our daily lives. The existence of sophisticated and high levels of technology in the

modern world offers us free time, access to information and the abilities to make work easy as

much as we need. In the old generations, the people from those days were required to handle a

lot of things in their life using their human energy. However, today, science and technology have

allowed devices to make where individuals only have to use their fingers to press buttons, and

everything they need to do will be done. In spite of the good things associated with science and

technology, there are many other aspects that technology has also negatively impacted. One of

this is that high-tech technology has made people lazier. Technology has also made people lose

their value for nature. Therefore, due to technology, many people stopped caring about nature,

and this has destroyed nature. This is something that people realize now, and they are trying to

correct. Technology is something that is going to grow more complex and high-tech in the future.

One of the important aspects of science and technology that I have learned through this

course is related to transhumanism. The group work discussion from this course was very helpful

in understanding more about the issue of transhumanism. Therefore, I learned that science and

technology have played a significant role in transhumanism. Transhumanism can be said to be

the extension of our humanism. Through the group work, I have learned that the humanists

believe that we as humans matter as well that people and individuals matter. This is something

that has taught me about the importance of valuing a human being. Therefore, I have learned to

value my classmates as well as every person I meet. Additionally, I have learned that we as

human beings are not perfect. However, we have the potential of making things better through

the promotion of rational thinking, democracy, tolerance, concern for the fellow persons and

 freedom. This is something that I also agree with because I believe that we have the potential to

become better people in the society and as human beings. I have also learned that similar to our

ability to use rational means in the improvement of the external world and human condition.

Science and technology may be used to improve the human condition through the improvement

of the human organism. Through this, the human beings will not be limited by the traditional

humanistic methods like cultural and educational development. Technological and scientific

means can be used to facilitate the accomplishment of aspects that are beyond the human

expectation.

Another aspect that I have learned about science and technology is concerning the war

and engineering. This is important because on top of science and technology play a positive role

in the society, technology, and science has also facilitated the provision of high-tech technologies

used in war. The use of science and technology in the modern engineering has impacted the

military and the use of weapons in war. It is for this reason that the technologically advanced

countries use their military for to achieve their interests through the use of advancement in the

use of science and technology. However, the advancement of science and technology for military

and weapon expansion is a negative impact on science and technology. This is because such

weapons are used for the destruction of properties as well as the loss of lives and perpetuate

injustices on human beings to be done.

In spite of this, the last aspect that I would like to reflect on science and technology is its

facilitation of urban planning systems and projects. Technology is important for those individuals

that work on the urban planning and design. This is because not only does science and

technology boosts productivity for the urban planning and urban design individuals, science and

technology increase the collaboration between individuals doing various projects to perform

 more efficiently and work together. Additionally, technology facilitates attention to detail, citizen

engagement and data-oriented processes. I have learned the importance of science and

technology especially because the world is experiencing a rapid population growth as well as the

expansion of the urban lines, climate change and many other aspects that must be considered by

the urban city designers and planners.

Science and technology facilitate the incorporation of the right tools by the urban

planners and designers to help in the establishment of the best and proper ways for the

improvement of the community’s sustainability. An example of this is the use of apps such as the

environmental impact calculator which is useful in the provision of information about the

calories amounts as well as the modes that will be used up from one location to another.

Therefore, it is important for the developers to be able to know the ways that they will create

urban spaces which rely less on fossil fuels as well as is accessible to the cyclists and

pedestrians. These are aspects that are important in ensuring that we have a sustainable

environment for the future generations.

The class aspects that I went through this semester such as group works, debates and

presentations were important aspects that have taught me on my issues related to science and

technology. Through the group discussions, I learned on my aspects that I have never thought

about before. These were informative insights that have improved my knowledge as well as

taught me on how to critically think about issues.

In conclusion, science and technology are important in making the world a better place.

However, there are negative aspects of science and technology that must be addressed. This will
