function.
Motivation
Activity 1: How is your relation?
Students will be given a scenario and they will identify if it
is a function or not.
Scenario: June and Mae are in a long-time relationship
until June realized that he wants to marry Mae.

At the end of the activity, teacher will emphasized to

students the statement below:

“HINDI LAHAT NG RELASYON AY NAGFA-FUNCTION

PERO LAHAT NG NAG-FUNCTION AY ISANG
MAGANDANG RELASYON”

Activity 2: Do you still remember?

Given the following expressions, find its value if x = 3
1. x −9
2. 3x + 7
3. 3𝑥 + 𝑥 2 + 10
4. 3𝑥 2 − 3
5. 2 − 𝑥 2

We lead, we serve, we excel with a heart.

Activity
Activity 3: Function or Not?
Students need to identify if the given relations
represented in different formats is function or not.

1. Using ordered pairs

2. Using tables
3. Using mapping diagrams
4. Using graphs of functions
5. Using function machine
6. Using equation (at this part student will also know
how to apply their knowledge in evaluating
expression in finding the value of input and
output)

Activity 3: Arrange Me!

Students need to re-arrange given on example’s column
to fit properly on the given types of function and
description.

We lead, we serve, we excel with a heart.

Note: To conserve space and bond paper, not all the given functions on the
aforementioned activity were snipped.

Analysis
Activity 4: Turn me into Equation!
Students will now try to represent the following real life
situations of function into equation.
1. If height (H) is a function of age (a), give a function H
that can represent the height of a person in a age, if
every year the height is added by 2 inches.
2. Give a function B that can represent the amount of
battery charge of a cellular phone in h hour, if 12% of
battery was loss every hour.
3. A certain chocolate bar costs ₱50.00 per piece.
However, if you buy more than 5 pieces they will mark
down the price to ₱48.00 per piece. Use a piecewise
function to represent the cost in terms of the number of
chocolate bars bought.

We lead, we serve, we excel with a heart.

Activity 5: It’s your TURN!
Students will used their new learned knowledge on types
of function to evaluate the following functions by filling up
the missing parts of the solution.

Abstraction
Students will used their knowledge on evaluating
functions in solving real-life situations given on activity 4.

1. Using the function on the second problem of activity 4,

find the amount of charge left on the phone after 3hours.
2. Using the function on the third problem of activity 4,
find the total cost if someone bought ten (10) pieces of
chocolate bars.

We lead, we serve, we excel with a heart.

Application (Evaluation)
Students will used their knowledge on evaluating
functions in solving real-life situation.

1. A parking fee at SM Lucena costs ₱25.00 for the

first two hours and an extra ₱5.00 for each hour of
extension. If you park for more than twelve hours,
you instead pay a flat rate of ₱100.00.

a. Represent your parking fee using the function

p(t) where t is the number of hours you parked
in the mall.
b. How much will be the parking fee after 15hours?
