LESSON EXEMPLAR PLAN IN GRADE 4 SCIENCE ELEMENTARY

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of grouping different materials
based on their properties.
B. Performance The learners should be able to recognize and practice proper handling
Standard of products.

C. Learning The learners should be able to classify materials based on the ability to
Competency absorb water, float, sink, undergo decay.
1. Unpacked The learners be able to identify the effects of decaying materials on
competency one’s health and safety.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic Grouping Materials based on Properties
B. Science Ideas Materials may be classified based on their properties such as buoyancy,
porosity, and decomposition and the effects of decaying materials on
our health.
C. Science Processes Observing, identifying, classifying, sorting
D. Values Focus Cooperation, Understanding
E. Materials Powerpoint presentation, pictures of materials that decomposite,
materials like sponge, cotton, etc for porosity property, materials that
float like plastic bottle, etc, teacher-made worksheet.

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
ENGAGE
1. Drill Let the pupils recognize the shown picture and identify if it’s sinking
or floating.
BALL PENCIL ROCK BELL
LEAVES CLOTHES FEATHER SPONGE

2. Review The pupils will answer the following question.

1. What is the topic that we discuss from our last meeting?
2. Give an example of an objects that undergo in the process of
melting, freezing, evaporating, and sublimation.
EXPLORE
1. Motivation Play “Draw an Object”. The students will draw an object that is given
by the teacher. The teacher will team the class into 2 and each group
has a 3 volunteer and will be the one who draw the object on the board.
2. Presentation Present to the class that objects have their own properties and groups.
And how decay affects our health.
3. Pre-activity Divide the class into 4 groups. Let them assign the leader, presentor,
facilitator, and time- keeper.
Leader - Makes sure the group achieves the task.
Presentor - makes sure that he/she will present the activity with
confident and provide the correct information.
Timekeeper - Makes sure the group keeps to time.
Facilitator-Makes sure everybody in the group has an equal chance to
contribute.
4. Activity proper Distribute the pictures. For the first picture identify if its sinking or
floating. While the second picture the group will identify if it’s
biodegradable or non-biodegradable. After the given time ( 3minutes )
the group will start to prepare for explanation about their activity.
EXPLAIN
1. Group Reporting After all groups have done performing the activity, ask the presentor
of the group to share to the class the result of their activity.
2. Discussion Ask the other groups if they agree to the presenter’s explanations. Ask
also of the other explanations which was not mentioned by the
reporter.
ELABORATE
1. Generalization Ask the class: What are the topics that I discussed earlier and give
some examples?
Give me some examples of factors affecting
decomposition.

Note: The teacher may further explain why is it important to know

the groupings based on their properties.
2. Application Think some objects inside your house. List down materials that can
float, sink, or can decay.
EVALUATE

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1. Objects like feather float, because they are _____
A. LESS DENSE
B. SMALLER
C. HEAVIER
D. LIGHTER
2. Which of the following materials will float in the water?
A. SPOON
B. STONE
C. BALL
D. NAIL
3. Which of the following materials will sink in the water?
A. LEAF
B. BALL
C. COIN
D. PLASTIC CUP
4. What affects the object ability to float or to sink?
A. MASS AND VOLUME
B. DENSITY AND BUOYANCY
C. SHAPE AND DENSITY
D. SHAPE AND SIZE
5. Which of the following materials will decay as time goes by?
A. STYRO FOAM
B. SPONGE
C. FOOD WASTE
D. PLASTIC BOTTLE
IV. ASSIGNMENT
In a short or long bondpaper, draw atleast 3 materials that can decay,
can reused, and lastly can recycled. Pass it on our next meeting.
