Introduction

Pigs (S. Domesticus) production is one of the highest production of

livestock in the Philippines. The country’s annual pig production total varies.

Pigs (S. Domesticus) feed frequently contains ingredients including rice bran,

broken rice, maize, soybeans, cassava, vegetables, and distillers' leftovers. On

the other hand, we developed an alternative feed that is called the ECP

mixture it is a nutritious mixture. It is made up of three ingredients which are

peanuts, corn, and eggshells that is cost efficient and abundant in our place.

This mixture has a lot of beneficial minerals and vitamins for pigs (S.

Domesticus).

The dilemma of feed shortage can be resolved through this study. We,

the researchers, came up with a mixture called the ECP mixture. The said

mixture is consisting of three (3) main ingredients namely, eggshells, peanut,

and corn kernels. We used ingredients that are cost-efficient and highly

available in our local place. With this, we will test and see if the ECP mixture

is feasible as an alternative feed for the pigs (S. Domesticus).

An eggshell is the outer covering of a hard – shelled egg and of some

forms of eggs with soft outer coats. Eggshell is made almost entirely of

calcium carbonate (CaCO3) crystals. It is a good source of calcium, protein and

other minerals that is good for pigs (S. Domesticus). Calcium is essential for

the development of teeth and bones, nerve impulse transmission, muscular

excitability, cardiac control, blood coagulation, and enzyme activation in

animals.

Conversely, corn kernels are the plant's fruits. Vitamin C, an

antioxidant that aids in protecting your cells from harm and fends off diseases

like cancer and heart disease, is abundant in corn. It is a great source of

energy for animals, especially pigs (Sus Scrofa Domesticus), and the majority of

other energy feedstuffs are expensive in comparison to corn. The amino acids

in soybean meal combine with the amino acids in corn to produce a diet that

also meets the nutritional demands of pigs. This vegetable is incredibly

nutrient-dense and might be a fantastic addition to their diet.

The legume known as the peanut (Arachis hypogea) has its origins in

South America. In particular, it is a wonderful source of fiber, protein, and

healthy fats. Additionally, they are rich in B vitamins, potassium, phosphorus,

and magnesium. Peanuts are nutrient-rich and low in carbs despite having a

lot of calories. Pigs (Sus Scrofa Domesticus) can get a lot of energy from

peanuts' high fat content and protein content. Due to their high calorie

content, peanuts are a fantastic food to help pigs gain weight or bulk up.

Additionally, it contains copper, zinc, and vitamin B3, which are essential for

energy metabolism, immunity, and pigmentation, all of which contribute to

the wellbeing of pigs.

This combination of eggshells, corn, and peanuts produces S.

Domesticus a balanced diet giving all the vitamins, minerals, and water it

needs. It’s an excellent mixture to provide swine with nutritious fats as well

as a filling and savory meal, and this combo is completely safe. ECP mixture

can therefore be used as an alternative feed for S. Domesticus. There are

numerous acceptable alternatives that match nutritional needs (Murphy et.

al).

In this experiment, we will use varying amount of each ingredient. As

a result, different measurements of each ingredient will be tested (¼ kilo of

peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of eggshell, 1/4 kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of

corn kernels; ½ kilo of eggshell, ¼ kilo of peanut; ½ kilo of corn kernels; ¼

kilo of eggshell, and ½ kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of

eggshell). It is expected to have different effects on the pig. Adding too much

can be harmful or result to unlikeable outcome. While it is crucial to apply the

right amount of ingredients in this mixture. In addition, a study by Ronald W.

Hardy and Andreas Brezas in 2022, conclude that it is crucial to have a

thorough understanding of the nutrients and energy composition of feed

ingredients. Therefore, it is important to know which measurement will best

work to successfully use this mixture as an alternative feed for pig.

Moreover, each ingredient used in this mixture have suitable qualities

that can be used to mix with the other ingredients. For this reason, it allows us
to create a new feed formulation that is feasible and can be used as an

alternative. Thus, it contains of minerals such as calcium, protein, vitamin C,

copper, zinc, vitamin b3, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and other

minerals. The findings reported by Lucy Towers (January 2016) revealed that

an adequate amount of calories, protein, minerals, and vitamins should be

present in good pig feed. Hence, the ECP mixture is composed of these

qualities longside remaining cost-effective.

The use of ECP mixture as an alternative feed can assist poultry and

swine farmers financially while also benefiting S. Domesticus. Because all the

ingredients used in this mixture are affordable and readily available, it may

be possible to stretch feed resources while still meeting nutritional needs. The

growth rate production capacity, and health status of pigs (S. Domesticus are

directly impacted by maintaining the production of ECP mixture. It is

essential for successful farming that is sustainable at the same time. ECP

mixture also emphasizes animal nutrition for pigs (S. Domesticus).

Alternative feeds require careful management to ensure that this

mixture meets the nutritional needs for pigs (S. Domesticus). Eggshells, corn,

and peanuts are combined to create ECP mixture, which aids in maintaining

the nutritional benefits of vitamins and minerals while promoting a balanced

diet in S. Domesticus. We know that a balanced diet is the foundation for

good health and the best possible performance of pigs (S. Domesticus), both
mentally and physically but not everyone has the opportunity to choose the

best foods that can satisfy their needs. This research is important not only in

terms of health but also in many aspects. As a result, developing this ECP

mixture is very beneficial not just for the sake of the animal itself but also to

the environment and us.

Objectives of the Study:

This study attempts to find out whether humans and Sus Scrofa

Domesticus can benefit from the ECP mixture. This investigation intends to

ascertain the nutritional impact of the components on Sus Scrofa Domesticus.

The following issues are specifically addressed by this study:

1. To introduce a mixture that can be used as an alternative feed for Sus

Scrofa Domesticus (pig).

2. To determine which measurement of the following mixture is suitable:

i. ¼ kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of eggshell

1
ii. /4 kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ½ kilo of

eggshell

iii. ¼ kilo of peanut; ½ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of eggshell

iv. ½ kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of eggshell

3. To prove BCP mixture as an effective feed for Sus Scrofa Domesticus

(pig).
Statement of the Problem

1. Can this mixture be used as an alternative feed for Sus Scrofa Domesticus?

2. Does the amount of mixture applied to the following affect the Sus Scrofa

Domesticus’ ability to grow?

i) ¼ kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of pulverized

limestone

ii) 1/4 kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ½ kilo of pulverized

limestone

iii) ¼ kilo of peanut; ½ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of pulverized

limestone

iv) ½ kilo of peanut; ¼ kilo of corn kernels; ¼ kilo of pulverized

limestone

3. Is ECP mixture effective for Sus Scrofa Domesticus as its feeds?

Hypothesis (Null)

HO1: ECP mixture can’t be used as an alternative feed for Sus Scrofa

Domesticus.

HO2: There is no sufficient amount of ECP mixture that affects the growth

of Sus Scrofa Domesticus.

HO3: ECP mixture isn’t effective for Sus Scrofa Domesticus as its feeds.
