Background At some HFO-engines, the fixation bolts for the rocker arm brackets torn off
(as a result of vibrations). Therefore, these bolts have been modified. For
standardisation reasons, this modification has been introduced for all new
engines built since April 1985.
Recommendation Modify all cylinder heads that are overhauled by Wärtsilä as well as the ones
that had problems with these bolts, as described in this document. Other
cylinder heads to be modified on request of the owner.
Remarks:
The required
roughness for the hole
with diameter Ø16 mm
is Rz100. This can be
reached by normal
drilling.

Estimated time Approximately 2 hours for modification of cylinder head and bracket. If the
rocker arm shaft has to be modified as well, one hour extra is required per
cylinder head.
