CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The Philippines has seen a rapid increase in the use of cellphones in daily life
in recent years. In addition to talking and texting, they are also used for a variety of other
things, including live chat, information searching, mobile banking, entertainment, and
more. Conversations over smartphones have supplanted one-on-one engagements and
private conversations. In many situations, the level of use has gotten so high that it has
developed into an addiction.
Excessive smartphone use can interfere with your sleep, which can negatively
affect your mental health in general. It may disrupt your memory, hinder your capacity for
clear thought, and weaken your cognitive and learning abilities. Many students today
struggle with their schoolwork, but it isn’t because they don’t know; rather, it is because
they use their smartphones to play games, watch videos, and read comics instead of
studying.
Mobile phones are considered as an essential part of day to day life. But its
excessive use is detrimental to the mind and body; especially, for the young population.
Even though there are many reports regarding the issues related to excessive use of
smartphones and its impact on the academic and social life of senior high students.
Students are the primary smartphone users, and their usage of them has an
impact on their academic performance, many of them spend a lot of time on phone
instead of studying.
The purpose of this research is to assist students, particularly grade 12
computer system servicing students, in tracking their phone time and the impact on
their academic performance. We will separate boys and girls for this research to
determine who had the greater impact on their academic performance. This can also be
a great way for students to reduce their phone use and have time management.
