CASTS
BULUBULU AS BABALU
2
THE BRUTE
Act 1
Gloomy Miss Suraya is listening to a classical P. Ramlee song on the radio, while
sitting in her room. Miss Suraya looking far outside her window, perhaps trying to tell
the world about her sadness.
We see the interior of a Malay village home. Up center is a large painting covered with
a black cloth so you don't see the full image of the man. Miss Suraya is a beautiful
woman in her thirties, holding back tears. In comes her dull servant named Bulubulu
who is bringing her a cup of tea. He is worried about her. As he is about to leave her
room, he looks at the audience and say in sympathetic manner.
Bulubulu Oh, how I pity her. She lost her smile ever since my master
died.
But I’m just Bulubulu.
There’s nothing I can do.

Miss Suraya (With suspicion)
Waalaikumsalam, and what my husband has to do with you?
Mr... Mr... ???
Mr. Fauzi (Helping her out with his name)
Fauzi, Miss.
Miss Suraya Yes, Mr. Fuzzy.
(She mistook his name all the time)
Mr. Fauzi Well, he used to borrow things from me, Miss... a sickle, a
watering can, and a hoe Miss!
Miss Suraya Oh, really?
He borrow a lot of things from you?
Mr. Fauzi A lot of them Miss, I'm afraid, and has promised to return it
on the spot.
Here are the list of them.
Miss Suraya My dear Mr... Mr.... Mr...???
Mr. Fauzi (Irritated by her mistake but remain his composure)
Fauziiiii, Miss.
Miss Suraya Oh Mr. Fizi, your things will be returned! When my servant
gets back from town. But today... No! Today is exactly seven
months since Mr. Raya’s death and I'm in no mood to think of
those things.
(She tries to hold back her tears)
Miss Suraya Like I said Mr. Furry, I don’t even know where he put those
things. Maybe he left it at his workplace, that’s why I told you
to wait until my servant gets back from town.
Until then I don’t want to hear anything else.
Please go away now!!
(She rushes past him crying and slams the door behind her.
He is speechless and cannot believe he did not get what he
wanted. He goes to her door and cries out)

another, avoiding marked squares and completes his turn.
He stopped right in front of Miss Suraya. Miss Suraya’s face
becomes red and she look away from Mr. Fauzi)

from Mr. Fauzi)
(In a shy voice) Eh why you like this?! O-of course I’ll be

love.
