TOPIC : STARTER UNIT: FREE TIME

Grammar focus : Adjectives e.g. boring, hot, cold

LESSON DEVELOPMENT (PRESENTATION)

 Whiteboard, marker pen, printed materials

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Teacher writes on board: ‘big ←→small’, ‘fast ←→slow’ with symbol to show they’re opposites.
Teacher elicits big, small, fast, slow.

2. Teacher shows some pictures as examples and ask which are big/small/fast/slow. Pupils try
giving the correct answers.

3. Teacher explains that these words are adjectives.

4. Teacher gives other examples of adjectives and how to use it in a sentence. E.g:

Hot - It was a very hot day in April.

Cold - The cold wind blew the kite across the sky.

Boring - It was an incredibly boring film.


PRACTICE

 Worksheet, textbook

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Teacher give pupils worksheet.

2. Pupils read the sentence and identify the adjective in the sentence.

3. Pupils read the sentence again and colour the correct answers.

4. Pupils study the key phrases given in the textbook p.8 and write eight sentences about the things
in the table provided.

PRODUCTION

1. Pupils in groups of three, take turns to ask and answer the questions: What have you got in
your pocket/on your desk/under your bed? They include an adjective in their answer e.g. I
have a small notebook in my pocket.
