UDC 666.151 JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD JIs Sheet Glasses R 3201-1981 (Reaffirmed: 1987) 1. Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the sheet glasses (1) used mainly for the windows of buildings and vehicles, and others. Note (1) These shall be defined as the transparent sheet glasses generally produced by the machine-drawing method, having flat surfaces as fusion-manufactured. Remark: For the frosted glasses made from sheet glasses, refer to Appendix to this standard. 2, ‘Types and Grades 2.1 ‘Types The types by thickness shall be as follows Q) 2mm @) 3mm 2.2 Grades The grades shall be as follows: (1) Grade A @) Grade B 3. Quality ‘The quality shall be as specified in Table 1. The length and width, however, may be expressed in size number (°). ‘The shape shall be square or rectangular. Note (3) The size number is defined as the quotient, rounded off to an integer, of the length of each side of a sheet glass divided by 25.4 mm. 4.2 Maximum Standard Size The maximum standard size for each type shall comply with Table 2. Table 2 Max. standard size mm 914 x 813 1219 x 610 1676 x 1219 1829 x 914 Note (*) The maximum standard size is defined as the size of panel whose major or minor side is the maximum of the standard sizes for each type of sheet glass. 4.3 Thickness and Tolerance Thereon The thickness and tolerance thereon shall comply with Table 3. Table 3 4.4 Tolerance on Length and Width The tolerance on length and width shall be within the limits of +1 mm and - 2 mm. 4.5 Number of Panels per Case The number of panels per case is, as a rule, defined as the quotient, rounded off to an integer, of 9.29 m® divided by the area (m?) of one sheet. 4 R 9201-1981 5. Test Method 5.1 Quality — The test on quality shall be made as follows: (1) Bubbles, chips and flares shall be measured with a metallic straight measure, specified in JIS B 7516, graduated to 0.5 mm. (2) Inclusion, specks, clouding, scratches and crazing shall be viewed at about 50 cm distance in front of the specimen. (8) For seams and waves, the inspector shall observe an object placed not more than 3 m distant from the specimen through its part at his eye- height 50 cm distant from its face, while moving in parallel with its face, so that the incident angle is 45° for Garde A, or 30° for Grade B. When the size of specimen is small, the observation may be made in the same way with the specimen held by hand. (See Figure.) When the strength of seam and wave is different for the longitudinal and lateral directions, the observation shall be made for the stronger direction. Figure Plan \ Specimen Object Incident angle 3 st (4) Warpage shall be measured for the specimen stood upright so that no external deforming force is given to it, by horizontally contacting a straightedge and measuring the height of arc for the length of chord, in the case of bowing, or by measuring the depth of trough (or height of peak) for the distance from peak to peak (or from trough to trough), in the case of corrugation. The warpage shall be calculated by the fol- lowing equatior x10 where warpage (%) height of arc, depth of trough, or height of peak (mm) length of chord, distance from peak to peak, or distance from trough to trough (mm). 5 R 8201-1981 5.2 Thickness Measurement The thickness shall be measured with micrometer callipers, specified in JIS B 7502, reading to 0.01 mm or @ measuring instrument having an accuracy at least equivalent thereto. ‘The measurement shall be made at a point not less than 15 mm inside the edge. 5.3 Length and Width Measurement The length and width shall be measured with a steel tape measure, specified in JIS B 7512, graduated to 1 mm. The measurement shall, as a rule, be made on adjacent two sides. 6. Inspection The inspection of the sheet glasses shall be made in accordance with 5. for the specimen taken by a rational sampling plan, and the results shall meet the requirements of 3. and 4. 7. Packaging The sheet glasses shall, as a rule, be packaged by the use of suitable shock- absorbing material. 8. Marking The sheet glasses shall be marked on each package with the following items or abbreviations therefor: (1) Name of material 2) Type and grade (3) Size (4) Number of panels per case (6) Manufacturer's name. 6 R 3201-1981 1, Scope Appendix Frosted Sheet Glasses ‘This Appendix specifies the frosted sheet glasses (1), hereinafter referred to as the "frosted glasses". Note (1) 2. Types The sheet glasses of which one face has been subjected to frosting which uses a suitable method, such as sand-grinding, sand-blasting, etching, etc. The types by thickness shall be as follows: Q) 2mm @) 3mm - Quality The quality shall comply with Appendix Table 1. Inclusion Crazing Chip and flare Insufficient grinding Type of defect Appendix Table 1 There shall be none which hinders serviceability There shall be none which is visually distinguishable There shall be none whose width or length is not less than the thickness Transparent image shall not be seen obviously 1 R 3201-1981 4, Dimensions, Shape and Number of Panels per Case 4.1 Dimensions and Shape The length, width and thickness shall be expressed in mm. Note (2) The size number is defined as the quotient, rounded off to an integer, of the length of each side of a frosted glass divided by 25.4 mm. 4.2 Maximum Standard Size (°) The maximum standard size for each type shall comply with Appendix Table 2. Appendix Table 2 Max. standard size mm 914 x 813 1219 x 610 1676 x 1219 1829 x 914 Note (3) The maximum standard size means the size of panel whose major or minor side is the maximum of the standard size for each class of frosted glass. 4.3 Thickness and Tolerance Thereon The thickness and tolerance thereon shall comply with Appendix Table 3. Appendix Table 3 4.4 Tolerance on Length and Width The tolerance on length and width shall be within the limits of + 1 mm and -2 mm. 4.5 Number of Panels per Case The mumber of panels per case is, as a rule, defined as the quotient, rounded off to an integer, of 9.29 m? divided by the area (m) of one sheet. & R 3201-1981 5.
