Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies steel wire, hereinafter referred to as "wire", and flux for use in submerged arc welding of mild steel and 50 kgt/mm? (490N/mm2} high tensile strength steel. 2. Classification 2.1 Wire The wire shall be classified into 7 types as given in Table 1. Table 1. Jo.030 max. | 20 ine). 3.2 Flux The quality of flux shall be uniform throughout the product, smooth in supply at welding and the flux shall provide excellent bead appearance and form. Dimensions and Tolerances ‘The wire diameter and its tolerances shall comply with Table 4. Table 4. Dimensions of Spool Unit: mm The two holes are Ff not necessarily required to be on a straight line. | Maximum#2%0. 5 Z 3311-1976 5.1.4 ‘The mass, dimensions, and method of winding of wire over 75 kg in mass shall be determined by the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 5.2 Flux 5.2.1 The flux shall be in granular state, and a certain unit quantity shall be contained in a sack or a can and properly packaged. 5.2.2 As acrule, the unit quantity of flux shall be determined by the manu- facturer. 6. Tests 6.1 General Tests 6.1.1 The test plate shall be in accordance with Type 1 (either one of A to C) of JIS G 3106. 6.1.2 The diameter of the test wire shall be either 4.0 mm or 4.8 mm. 6.1.3 The test flux shall be dried prior to testing under conditions recommended by the manufacturer. 6.2 Analysis Test The chemical analysis test for components of wire shall be done by the methods specified in either one of the following: JIS G 1201 JIS G 1211 JIS G 1212 JIS G 1213 JIS G 1214 JIS G 1215 JIS G 1253 JIS G 1256 6.3 Tensile Strength Test and Impact Test on Deposited Metals 6.3.1 The test pieces for these purposes shall be the No. A1 of JIS Z 3111 and the No. 4 of JIS Z 3112. 6.3.2 The dimensions of the test plate shall be as shown in Fig. 2. The test plate shall be tack-welded first. Welding shall be done at flat position at the room temperature of 15°C or higher. 6 ‘Z 3311-1976 1€ Fig. 2. Welding Conditions Wire Welding | Welding | Welding | Interpass Buta diameter | current | voltage | spoed. | temperature | Pal-up mm A v em/mm °C a 4.0 Change of welding or rete | 26t038 | 30t050 | 150415 direction at 4.8 each pass 7 Z 3311-1976 6.3.4 Welding shall be started at room temperature, but when the interpass temperature rises over 165°C, the test plate shall be cooled in the ambient air to 150 + 15°C before restarting welding. 6.3.5 The number of passes shall be totally 7 to 10, one or two passes for the initial layer and two passes thereafter until the final layer, where three passes may be done. 6.3.6 In the case the procedures specified in 6.3.4 need to be suspended, the test plate shall be cooled in the ambient air to the room temperature. At restart of welding, the test plate shall be preheated by any adequate process to 150 + 15°C. 6.3.7 One tension test piece and three impact test pieces of the deposited metal shall be taken out of the welded test material as given in Fig. 2. The welded test material and the test pieces taken therefrom shall not be heat-treated. 6.3.8 The tension test and the impact test shall be performed in conformity with JIS Z 2241 and JIS Z 2242, respectively. 6.3-9 The tension test pieces of the deposited metal may be performed on dehydrogenation at a temperature of 250°C or lower for a period not longer than 16 hours. 7. Inspection 7.1. The wire shall have the appearance, dimensions and results of chemical analysis complying with specifications of 3. and 4. 7.2 The flux shall meet the specification of 3.2, and the results of tension test and impact test of the deposited metal shall meet the requirements as indicated in Table 2. 7.3. The state of the product and its packaging shall comply with the specifications of 5. and 8. 8. Packaging ‘The wire and flux shall be properly packaged in order to prevent injuries or moisture absorption during transport and storage. 9. Designation of the Products ‘The products shall be designated by the following procedures.
