 1. Use the quotes to discuss the most important events occurring in
the novel up to chapter # 8 and the role that leadership or the lack
of it plays in those events.

- Ralph is elected chief; rules are established.

In the story Ralph is elected as chief of the group. This made Jack
furious because he wanted to be leader, but everyone saw Jack as selfish
human being and they all knew once he got elected as the chief, he
would abuse the power that came from being a leader. Therefore, Ralph
was elected as the chief of the group. All the boys saw Ralph’s size, his
attractive appearance, and the way he blows the conch. For this reason,
he got elected as the boy’s chief.
After Ralph was elected as chief, he establishes few basic rules that
they all needed to fallow. First rule was that if anyone wanted to speak
to the group, they needed to blow the conch. The second rule was to
always keep the fire burning so that if a ship passes by, they could notice
the fire and rescue them. Another rule established by Ralph was to
always have fun. These rules may be simple, but it meant the survival of
them and without these rules they could have been way more
disorganized.
 - A boat passes because the signal fire was unlit.

When the boat passed, they did not have the fire lit and Ralph got mad
because that was there chance of getting of the island and Ralph thought
that they would not get another chance like this and because of that they
had to spend more time on the island, and they keep losing more of their
humanity and it made them more like savage beast.

2. What leadership qualities do Ralph, Jack, and Piggy have? What

leadership qualities are they missing? Do you think either Ralph,
Jack, or Piggy could be a good leader? Why or why not? Explain.

Ralph leadership qualities are that he has a voice that everyone can
follow he cares for everyone he helps when a person is sad like
when piggy was being called fatty, he changed his name to piggy
because fatty is worse. I would say that what Ralph is missing is
smart he is not that smart, but I would say that he can a be a leader
of a country he just needs like a smart person giving him ideas.
Jacks leadership qualities I would say that he does not have much
he is a strong person, and he can do a lot of the heavy lifting I
would see him as more of a person close to the leader and he is
protecting them. What jack is missing to be a leader is not be
selfish because he always makes himself number 1 and he does not
think of anyone else if he can fix that he would be a good leader.
Piggies leadership qualities are that he is smart, but he is shy, and a
lot of people bully him I would see him more as the person who
helps the leader. What Piggy is missing is not being shy and being
more open and having a stronger voice.
