2. AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO, READ AND THESE QUESTIONS HERE ON THIS DOCUMENT.

a) Selasi explains that there is a difference between the questions: “Where are you from” and “Where are you a
local?” What would be your own answers to these questions?

b) Selasi suggests that we are defined by our rituals. What are some of your daily rituals and how do they
define the culture you come from?

c) Selasi also says that we are defined by our relationships. If you think about the people you connect with on a
weekly basis, where do these connections take place, literally? Consider both your online and physical
settings. How do these people and places define you?

d) Lastly, Selasi claims that people’s identities are often defined by the restrictions they experience. Do you
experience such restrictions in your life? How do these restrictions define who you are?

A) If they ask me where I am from, I would say from Cuenca because it is the country where I was born, but if they ask
me where I am local, I would say that in the place where I feel good with the people around me and I am proud of my
traditions.
B) One of my main rituals is to pray when I get up and before going to sleep to thank God for another day of life since in
my culture almost all people are Catholic.
C) As I said before, I connect with my family when we pray every day, with my friends when we play or talk about.
something we have in common, etc., and with those connections I can improve my behavior with others.
D) The restrictions are defined as your identity, I do experience these restrictions in my life and many times I would
have done bad things but thanks to those restrictions my identity is good.
