AVOID IN BUSINESS

When it comes to Sales, it’s about Skills,
Scripts, Tools and Mindsets. Among these, a
lot depends on the mindset because what you
think is what you speak and what the customer
listens is how they react. So we need to be aware
of the inner dialogue because of which we are
doing or not doing something. So, we need to
keep the inner dialogue calm and positive which
affects our Sales game.

They will feel bad
if I follow up

Truth is if you don’t remind them that they need to buy from
you then they will buy from someone else. You’ve got to stay
on top of their mind. The biggest challenge is to ask them
when they will give you their business. So, maybe create
collaterals that you can send every now and then so you can
get in touch. Another way is to take permission from them
about following up. Ask them- is it okay if I follow up to take
an update from you? If you do not follow up, they might
consider it to be your disinterest or might even forget about
you after a period of time. Following up in the right way
denotes that you are interested in their business and are
serious about it. Please be aware of this and understand that
they won’t be annoyed by you if you follow up.

My product is so good
that it will sell itself

No product in the world is so perfect that it will sell itself.

Even when you buy the latest Macbook, you make a number
of decisions, read or watch reviews and then buy it. Your
product or service won’t speak for itself. You need to. You
need to Market your product or service. You need to figure
out what problem your product or service is solving and
accordingly market your product or service. Don’t think that
just because you think you have a brilliant product/service,
you do not need to market.

I will wait for my
customer to get back

A classic mindset the moment you exit your client’s office.

I’ve done my bit, now my customer will get back to me once
they are ready. No they won’t. They don’t know what they
need. You need to make sure you have the control, you need
to make sure the ball is in your court. Take a commitment- by
when exactly can you get back to me about this? And follow
up if they have not reverted. You need to follow up and show
responsibility for your product and service. Change the
mindset of if they like it, they will get back!

Sales Goals and Targets
create pressure

Without goals you won’t know the effort you need to put to
achieve your goals. If you don’t know where you want to go,
how will you know when to start, how fast to drive? Every
single activity in business and in Sales needs to be measured
and you need to know where you are. Sales Goals create
direction, not pressure. Pressure is human, don't take it too
hard on yourself. Give yourself the right amount of time to
achieve your goals and if you don’t achieve them, figure out
where the bottlenecks are and find a way to solve them.

If I Sell a lot, my customer
might not like me

This is a mindset that is again very common. This is because

you misunderstand the word SALES. Sales does not mean
trying to sell something your customer does not need. Sales
means giving enough information based on the needs of the
customer so that they make a decision by themselves. It is a
process of trying to understand what the customer needs.
It’s a conversation not convincing. Step out of the mindset
where you think someone might be annoyed by Sales. Have
conviction on your products/services and on the fact that if
they solve problems of your clients, you need to pitch them
to your clients as best as you can.

I am the best
Salesperson on my team

If you have a Sales team and you're the best on that team,
then you are doing Sales all wrong! Your team needs to be
trained as well as you in Sales so that they can drive the
business way better than you. If you are the best on the team
it is because of the years of experience that you have
accumulated over the years. Jot down the best practices, the
experiences, the winning scripts and create a Sales manual
for your team and train them to be better than you! They
can’t learn this on their own!

Marketing and Sales
are the same

This is one of the biggest mindset that entrepreneurs have

which is absolutely wrong. They expect Marketing results
from Sales and vice versa. Marketing and Sales are two
completely different activities that need separate focus from
you. Marketing is about adding value to your customer to
generate an interest from a lead or a prospect and Sales is
about converting a lead into a customer!
They are not the same!
