World Environment Day 2022 :
5th June
World Environment Day is observed
globally on 5th June every year to
highlight that the protection & health of
the environment is a major issue,
affecting the well-being and economic
development of people around the world.
The celebration of this day gives us an
opportunity to broaden the base of
enlightened opinion & responsible
conduct by individuals, enterprises,
communities in preserving and enhancing
the environment
The theme of this day 2022 “Only One
Earth”.
The idea of WED can be traced back 50
years to the hot June in Stockholm,
Sweden. That’s when the United Nations
Conference on the Human Environment
took place. Widely regarded as the 1st
global environmental summit, it was here
that the idea of World Environment Day
was formalised, 1st held in 1973. Since
then, the annual event on 5 June has
helped both celebrate the planet & put a
spotlight on the dangers it faces.

World Oceans Day 2022 : 8th June
World Oceans Day :
World Oceans Day is celebrated each year
on 8 June across the world. The day is
celebrated to remind people of the
importance of oceans & the major role
they play in everyday life. The day is also
observed to raise public awareness about
the ocean and its resources to promote
global ocean & resource sustainability.
The day intends to highlight the various
resources that mankind receives from the
sea, as well as the various dangers faced
by the ocean.
Theme of the day in 2022 “Revitalization:
collective action for the ocean”
History :
The concept of World Oceans Day was
first proposed by the United Nations in
1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de
Janeiro. It was suggested that a day be
observed to raise awareness about the
important role of the oceans in our lives

and the ways people can help protect
them. Since 2002, the World Ocean
Network has created support for ocean
awareness programs on 8 June with the
help of sponsorship from UNESCO’s
Intergovernmental Oceanographic

a resolution to designate this day.
World Food Safety Day 2022 : 7th
June
World Food Safety Day :
World Food Safety Day is observed
globally on 7 June each year according to
the World Health Organization (WHO).
World Food Safety Day aims to transform
food systems to provide better health &
prevent foodborne diseases. The day also
provides an opportunity to strengthen
efforts to ensure that the food we eat is
safe & reduces the burden of foodborne
diseases globally.

World Bicycle Day: 3rd June 2022
World Bicycle Day is observed on 3rd
June 2022. It is observed on 3rd of June
every year to spread awareness about the
benefits of using a bicycle. As per the
United Nations, the bicycle day highlights
the uniqueness, longevity and versatility
of the bicycle.
The day is observed since 2018 after a
resolution was passed by the United
Nations.
Bicycle is a simple, affordable, clean and
environmentally fit sustainable means of
transportation.
On the occasion a number of activities
and seminars are being organised across
the globe.

Bangladesh-India bus services
resume after two years
Passenger bus service between
Bangladesh and India resumed on 10th
June morning with the flagging off of a
Dhaka to Kolkata bus. The flag off
marked the inauguration of bus services
between the 2 countries through the
Akhaura-Agartala & Benapole-
Haridaspur Integrated Check Posts
(ICPs).
The inauguration of the passenger train
service between the two countries came
less than two weeks after the Dhaka-
Kolkata and Kolkata-Khulna bus-services
were flagged off on May 29 with the
Maitree Express and Bandhan Express
trains respectively. A new bi-weekly train
named Mithali Express between New
Jalpaiguri and Dhaka was also flagged off
by the Railway Ministers of India and
Bangladesh on 1st June.
Cabinet approves MoU between
India & United Arab Emirates
(UAE) on Cooperation in the field of
Industries & Advanced Technologies
Union Cabinet, chaired by the PM
Narendra Modi on 8th June 2022
approved the proposal for signing of a
bilateral Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) between India & United Arab
Emirates (UAE) on cooperation in the
field of Industry and Advanced
Technologies.
The growing economic and commercial
ties between India & the UAE contribute
to the stability and strength of the rapidly
diversifying and deepening bilateral ties
between the two countries. India-UAE
bilateral trade which was valued at
US$180 million (Rs 1373 crore) per year
in the 1970s, making the UAE India’s
third largest trading partner for the year
2019-20 after China and the US has
reached 60 billion US dollars (Rs 4.57
lakh crore). In addition, UAE is India’s
second largest export destination (after
the US) with exports worth US$ 29 billion
(Rs 2.21 lakh crore) for the year 2019-
2020. The UAE is the eighth largest
investor in India with an estimated
investment of US$18 billion (Rs 1.37 lakh
crore). Indian investment in UAE is
estimated to be around US$ 85 billion (Rs
6.48 lakh crore).

Indian Army contingent participated
in multinational joint exercise “Ex
Khan Quest 2022” organized by
Mongolia
A multinational peacekeeping exercise-
“Ex Khan Quest 2022” involving the
participation of troops from 16 countries,
including India, began in Mongolia on 6
June 2022. Mongolian President
Ukhnagin Khuralsukh inaugurated the
exercise.
The Defense Ministry said, the Indian
Army is represented by a contingent of
Ladakh Scouts. The 14-day exercise aims
to enhance interoperability among the
participating countries, build military-to-
military ties, peace support operations &
develop military preparedness. The
military exercise will enhance the level of
defense cooperation among the
participating countries.
India Bangladesh joint military
training exercise “EX Samprati-X”
is being conducted from 5 June to 16
June 2022.
As part of the ongoing bilateral defense
cooperation between India-Bangladesh, a
joint military training exercise “EX
Samprati-X” is being conducted at Jessore
Military Station, Bangladesh from 5 June
to 16 June 2022. Exercise is an important
bilateral defense cooperation conducted by
the 2 countries alternately, with the aim
of strengthening & widening
interoperability and cooperation between
the 2 armies.
The aim of the exercise is to strengthen
interoperability between the 2 armies &
understand each other’s tactical exercises
and operational techniques. In this
exercise, the Indian contingent is
represented by a battalion of Dogra
Regiment and this contingent left by road
to the exercise site on 4 June 2022.

announced the schedule for the election of
the 16th President of India. Announcing
the election schedule in New Delhi on 9th
June 2022, Chief Election Commissioner
Rajiv Kumar said, “Voting will be held on
18th July. The notification for the election
will be issued on 15th June and the last
date for filing nominations will be 29th
June. Scrutiny of nomination papers will
be done on 30th June. Counting will be
done on 21st July. President Ram Nath
Kovind’s term ends on 24th july.
The President is elected by an electoral
college comprising elected members of
Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha & State
Legislative Assemblies. It also includes
Legislative Assemblies of Delhi &
Puducherry.

Union Government has launched the
Rashtriya Puruskar Portal for inviting
nominations for various awards of the
various Ministries, Departments &
agencies to ensure transparency and
public partnership. This common portal
has been developed by the government to
bring together all the awards under one
digital platform.
The Portal aims to facilitate citizens to
nominate individuals & organizations for
various awards instituted by the
Government of India.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a
statement on 9th June 2022, Currently
nominations and recommendations for the
Padma Awards for the Sardar Patel
National Integration Awards are open till
15th September this year, nominations
will remain open till 31st of next month.

NHAI enters Guinness World
Records for laying 75 Km long
continuous Bituminous Concrete
Road in record 105 hours and 33
minutes.
The Union Minister for Road Transport
and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, on 8th
June 2022 announced the new Guinness
World Record set by the National
Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in
laying 75 km of bituminous concrete in a
single lane on NH53 in 105 hours & 33
minutes.
Mr. Gadkari said that NHAI has created
a world record on the completion of 75
years of India’s independence and under
the Amrit Mahotsav declared by Prime
Minister Shri Narendra Modi, which has
been certified by Guinness World Records.
Mr. Gadkari informed that a record has
been set for laying 75 km bituminous
concrete in a single lane in 105 hours and
33 minutes on NH 53 between Amravati
and Akola districts of Maharashtra.The
total length of the single-lane continuous
bituminous concrete road is 75 km
equivalent to 37.5 km of two-lane paved
shoulder road. He informed that this work
started on 3rd June 2022 at 7:27 am &
was completed on 7th June 2022 at 5 pm.

tickets through IRCTC website & app.

The Ministry of Railways said, it has

decided to increase the limit of booking a
maximum of 6 tickets in a month to 12
tickets using a user ID that is not linked
with Aadhaar. The ministry of railway
has also increased the limit for booking a
maximum of 12 tickets in a month to 24
using an Aadhaar linked user ID.
Maximum of 6 tickets can be booked
online in a month on IRCTC website/app
by a user ID which is not linked with
Aadhaar & maximum 12 tickets in a
month can be booked online through a
single user ID on IRCTC website &app
which can be the basis. One of the tickets
to be linked is linked & the passenger is
verifiable through Aadhaar.
She retired from T20 in September 2019,
but continued to play in ODIs & Test
matches. Mithali retired as the highest
run-scorer in women’s ODIs. She
represented India in 232 matches scoring
7,805 runs at an average of 50.68. Mithali
made her international debut in June
1999 in an ODI against Ireland. She
captained India in the ICC Women’s

year, where India failed to qualify for the

international gold medal in nearly 5 years
at the Bolat Turlikhanov Cup wrestling
tournament- UWW Ranking Series event in
Almaty, Kazakhstan. India’s Mansi
Ahlawat & Divya Kakran also topped the
podium in their respective weight
categories.

Sakshi Malik started off with a technical

superiority win over Kazakhstan’s Irina
Kuznetsova, followed by a 9-3 win over
Uzbekistan’s Rushana Abdirasulova. As
Mongolia’s Tserenchimed Sukhi advanced
to the semi-finals, Sakshi advanced to the
final, where she defeated leading Irina
Kuznetsova 7-4, the home wrestler for the
2nd time in the day.
