III.Course Specific Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the course will demonstrate the following outcomes by tests
and homework:
1. Recognize the essential parameters describing a steady flow in open channels and pipes.
2. Understand concepts of specific energy, critical flow, humps/constrictions, and hydraulic jump
and be able to solve related problems.
3. Be able to calculate flow in network of pipes.
4. Be able to solve a range of problems in steady and unsteady open channel flow.
5. Be able to estimate the length of backwater curves.
6. Be able to deal with different types of pumps.
7. Be able to solve problems of hydraulics using dimensional analysis and similitude

IV.Relationship to CE Program Outcomes

The previously listed course outcomes are somewhat highly correlated to the following Civil
Engineering Program outcomes:

1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of
engineering, science, and mathematics (highly related).
2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with considera-
tion of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic
factors. (Low relationship)
