Reflect on the life of our first three Sisters, first three

Paulinian Formators:
1. Like Mo. Marie Ann, were there times in your life when
despite your personal, family or community concerns and
issues, you continued to dutifully give yourself to your
mission and ministry?
 Yes. Despite to the various issues and problems which tends
to disrupt my focus and attention I still continue to
dutifully give myself to the mission and ministry because
these challenges are a way of God to make me stronger and
he will not give me a challenge that I cannot overcome.
Having faith and confidence to own self are the greatest
tools we have to learn in order for us to overcome these
challenges in our life because even we stumble a thousand
times, we must still manage to get back up. Life was never
meant to be easy, it was meant to be a journey filled with
quest, a journey where we must travel through no matter how
bad the obstructions are ahead of us.

2. Like Mo. Marie Micheau, your luck of experience or

mastery on the assigned work or task did not deter you from
doing your best and was rewarded a fulfilling positive
result and new opportunities for self- development?
 Being new in teaching profession in a public institution,
the knowledge and experience is not enough to handle many
students in one room that is far more different in a
private institution where I came from. But despite of the
fear of failures and mistakes that I encounter along the
way, I still accepted the challenge because I know that I
can make a big difference to the lives of my students, not
just few but many students . It is a great fulfillment on my
part to be able to overcome all these trials and learn new
things along the way.

3. Like Mo. Barbe City, Cagayan
Foucault, is your3500career-pathing a bit
“twisted” by your administrator or superior, appointing you
to take on a new assignment foreign to you; but, when
heeded, led you to greater freedom and mission-pathing?

 Yes.Being new teacher in a public school, I do not

have the sufficient knowledge and experience to easily
understand the flow of teaching in a public school.
When I entered the school, all I thought that I will
handle the Grade 1 pupils but my superior told me that
I will handle the Grade 4 pupils. But despite of the
fear of failures and mistakes that I encounter along the
way, I still accepted the challenge and made it valuable on
my part by learning and discovering new things.

4. Whose story is closest or resembles your own personal

journey?
 The story of Mo. Marie Micheau is closest to my
experience because like Mo. Marie I do not have the
sufficient knowledge and experience to easily
understand the flow of teaching in a public school.
But through faith, persistence, strong dedication and
passion, I was able to overcome such.

The PAULINIAN 5 C’s: Core Values
TASK:

1. Discuss the importance of the Paulinian core values as

Paulinian Identity in relation to your respective
profession.
 Paulinian Core Values as a Paulinian Identity in
relation to my teaching profession are important
because they serve as guide in doing the teaching and
learning process. I should manifest or practice these
core values in any simple ways that I can do. Through
these core values I can put my vision and mission to
my teaching profession into reality-that is to
produce students who are skilled with right values
that they can use as they go on with their day-to-day
lives.

2. How can I imbibe the Paulinian Core Values and respond to

my calling as a Paulinian for the world?
 As a Paulinian, I can imbibe the Paulinian Core Values
by being a role model or a good example most
especially to the children because being in the field
of teaching profession, children are extremely good
observers and they follow what they see.
3. As a Paulinian what is the relevance of knowing the
humble beginnings of my beloved University?

 From humble beginnings, come great things. Looking

back to the humble beginning of St. Paul University
this made me proud of our roots. It paved the way for me
to realize that this university is not only a birthing place
of professionals, but most importantly the Alma Mater of men
and women who are fired by the spirit and love of Christ.
Having this knowledge would make me a proud Paulinian, it
would make me a responsible, compassionate and Christ-like
individual.

THE CONVERSION STORY OF ST. PAUL & PAULINE LETTERS

1. ON the CONVERSION STORY OF ST. PAUL

REFLECT:
Paul was a tireless, fearless and faithful worker of the
Gospel of Jesus. His self-giving love was like that of Jesus
who gave his whole life for us.
How does the life of St. Paul appeal to you?

St. Paul has always been appealing. He was a tireless,

fearless, and faithful worker of the Gospel of Jesus. His
self-giving love was like that of Jesus who gave his whole
life for us. Paul was not a perfect man. He was once a
persecutor of Christians, but God has found him and changed him
into the man he has become. After he accepted his Christ’s
faith, in spite of all the shortcomings of his previous
life, he made an event to help other fight for holiness and
happiness in Christ. St. Paul's character is amazing and
there are several lessons that we can all take from his
life. After learning the life of St Paul, I am planning to
seek the opportunity to work and associate closely with a
good number of true followers of Christ whose purpose is to
live out the Catholic faith in an essential way and helping
others to feed or dress the underprivileged individuals.

REQUIREMENTS
INS 203: PAULINE ETHICS
As Paulinians we journey into Paul’s time and had a glimpse of
the life of Paul and were informed of his ethical teachings
through the available materials at hand. Somehow we have known
St. Paul the Apostle, the Patron of the Paulinians. And so, for a
deeper understanding and reflection of Paul’s life and teachings,
take time to read the suggested readings, the Bible and search
for other possible materials for your references. Based on your
readings and reflection on the life of St. Paul, please answer
the following reflectively.

1. On personal level, describe your own “Road to Damascus”

experience. (2-3 pages)
Growing up in the church, I was always amazed by the
story of Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus. This
story in the book of Acts is a constant reminder of the
choice we make when we accept Jesus as our Father, our
Lover, and most importantly, our Savior. Saul was on his way
to destroy and kill more Christians, claiming “murderous
threats” to the brothers and sisters of Christ. But while he
was on his own mission, set by his own expectations and
goals, Christ revealed a key revelation: Saul’s path was not
up to Saul to determine, but to God alone. Many times during
our days we often become so wrapped up in our own life,
dilemmas, crises or even pride that we forget our true
calling of life. It is not that we be glorified through our
works, but for us to be transparent for God to shine through
us. Just as Saul was physically blinded by the bright light
of Christ, ironically he then saw his purpose: to proclaim
the Word of God and that only God can provide us with
unconditional love, grace and salvation.
We've all had our own crossroads, leaps of faith, important
decisions, and adventures, and each of us has had our own
unique experiences.
My Road to Damascus started at an early age. My mother is
house wife and my father is a farmer. One day, my father
told us not to continue our studies anymore because of
financial problem. But we insist to continue our studies. My
bother stayed at my aunt house just to continue his studies.
So, I ask my father to continue my studies since my brother
was in my aunt house.
I decided to continue my studies to pursue my dreams, I
take this as a challenge to me. I have to study hard to help
my parents. I did not give up instead I always pray to the

Lord our God that he willCity, always

guide me and helped me in
my journey.
I took College of Education Bachelor of Secondary
Education and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
I am happy because God rewarded me with all of my prayers,
sacrifices, and trials.
2013 when I started my teaching career at a private
school. But I need to quit because I got sick . I was
depressed because I thought I cannot teach anymore. But I
never give up. I pray and trust the Lord. 2014 I applied to
another private school. After 3 years, luckily I got a
permanent job as a public school teacher.
Life was challenging yet fulfilling, because I believe
God has a plan and a purpose of everything. He has
the blueprint for our lives drawn up. He is guiding us and
putting seeds in our hearts and, like a gardener, he waters
the seeds he plants within our hearts. God see us, he hear
us, and he answers our prayers. This life can be hard, but
through trials, the Lord makes us stronger.

2. On the character of Paul, what did you discover about Paul

that you intend to imitate and apply to both your personal
and professional life? (2-3 pages)

Paul was a very zealous Pharisee. He was traveling to many

communities, attempting to root out the wayward Jewish sect
that thought Jesus was the messiah. Paul was one of the star
pupils of Gamaliel, one of the foremost Jewish theologians of
his day. Paul also held the coats for the men who murdered
Stephen, one of the first Christian martyrs of the church.
Truly, Paul was on the fast track to do great things for God,
from his perspective.
Then Paul, on his way to rout out Christians in Damascus, met
the risen Jesus on the Damascus road. Paul was converted to
faith in Jesus the living Messiah. And in this encounter with
Jesus, Paul was blinded for three days before Ananias came and
Paul received his sight.
During these three days, Paul was told about the ministry
that the Lord Jesus had called him to, both the great
accomplishments and the tremendous challenges.Paul was
immediately rejected by the church and viewed with great
suspicion by those he was destined to minister to, Christians
being ignorant or skeptical of his conversion. Here is where
patience began to work. Paul knew that what God had told him,
God would bring it to pass. After what experts think may have
St. Paul University
Philippines
Tuguegarao
been as long as 10 City, Cagayan
to 14 years, the 3500
Apostle Paul is called out
on his first missionary trip.
Thus begins the ministry of the man who would write more of
the New Testament than any other person. We see him with the
same zeal with which he had persecuted the Christians. But now
this zeal was in line with what God wanted him to do, not what
he wanted to do for God. Ten long years of patience had
equipped Paul to do God’s will, God’s way. For ten years, Paul
had to deal with his exhibited desire to work for God. How
many times had he asked the Lord to allow him to get started?
What we do know is that Paul continued to minister in the
local churches and kept busy with what God had given him,
while the Lord worked the personal ambition out of him.

We see in Paul’s later life, as he sat under house-arrest

under the Roman Governor Felix for two years, how the patience
Paul had learned back in his early ministry, allowed him to
continue to trust God and eventually get to Rome which he
desired.

The character of Paul that I'd like to imitate is Patience.

As a teacher, it is important for me to have patience on my
pupils. Being an elementary teacher for the past 8 years
helped me to practice the virtue of patience. Every day in the
classroom I’m given multiple opportunities to let go, and let
things be. Anyone who is surrounded by children day in and day
out knows that to some extent, control is something we’ve got
to forfeit in order to truly live in the moment and accept
students for who they are. Trying to mold every experience,
activity and lesson the way we would like it to flow only
leads to disappointment or frustration for both the teacher
and students. I pride myself on being able to assess the
children in my charge, and proceed with a lesson by taking
cues from them.
In reflection I know that some of my worst days are those
where I tried too hard to manage the outcome, or when the
students output didn’t match my desired expectations. In
short, when my patience ran short, things went awry. And as
you might guess, some of my best teaching has come when I’ve
relinquished that control, and allowed learning to unfold
naturally. Patience takes practice. I wish I could say it’s
something I’ve mastered, but in the end, is it ever something
we can fully master all the time?  I think as teachers, it’s
our duty to be mindful of being patient. Believe me, students
of all ages know the difference between a teacher with an
St. Paul University
Philippines
agenda – someone Tuguegarao
who just City, Cagayan
checks 3500 off a list, from a
items
teacher who truly cares about the learning taking place –
someone who isn’t afraid to veer off that agenda. In short,
kids learn rather quickly whether a teacher practices
patience. The culture of the classroom is different. It’s a
place where students feel respected and safe. No agenda should
take precedence over student engagement and curiosity – which
equates to meaningful learning. Having patience is certainly
one of the hardest things I work on every day with my
students. I’m proud of my efforts. I’ve made some extremely
great connections with students and parents over the years
because of this.

3. Reflect on Paul’s ethicalCity,teachings.
Cagayan 3500 Draw their relevance in
today’s world and times. Include a discussion on Paul’s view
of sexuality.(Discuss extensively)

Ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right,

and workplace ethics is about knowing and doing what is good
or right at work. For the Christian, this means applying the
Bible and other resources of the Christian faith to help
decide and do what is ethical or moral at work.

The ethical is based on God's nature. When making

decisions in accordance with or in contradiction to affixed
eternal law quietly buried in the nature of things, the
domain of ethical activities is not a self-sufficient, self-
regulating one. The ability to conduct ethically is not one
we generate on our own, but rather one that God has given
us. It is only possible when God actively contributes to us
in Christ by giving himself to us.
“All things are lawful for me,” may have been a slogan
of some Christians in Corinth, who assumed that because of
the grace of God they found in Jesus, they could do pretty
much whatever they wanted, like double-dipping or picking
and flicking. “When Christians do it, that means it is not
illegal,” they might have uttered, using their best Nixon
impressions as they flicked boogers all over Corinth.
Paul was tormented by this careless, indulgent
attitude. “All things may be lawful, yes, but not all things
are beneficial.” In his letter, Paul goes into a riff on
sexual purity, specifically regarding intercourse with
prostitutes; Paul finds sex with prostitutes problematic
because sex with a prostitute typically happens without
spiritual union. Since Paul believes that the body and
spirit are connected not temporarily but eternally, what we
do to and with our bodies matter. Yes, that tattoo with
Chinese characters that actually reads “toilet” will still
be on your ankle when you arrive at the “pearly gates.”
Clearly Paul is anti-prostitution. Paul is anti a lot
of things. This is one of the reason so many people dislike
Paul so very much. Come to think of it, this is also the
reason so many love Paul so very much. Today, those who
dislike Paul usually dislike him because of the way his
guidelines for sexual activity (and gender roles and
interactions with slaves, and castration etc) have been
preached as moral law. Some churches tend to avoid the topic
of sex altogether, usually in response to those churches who
St. Paul University
Philippines
obsess over it.Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
Paul deals directly3500with sex, but he does
not do so as many assume; Paul never really writes a
treatise on sexuality; he comments on it, but he never
landed a book deal to write definitely and timelessly on the
topic. Paul wants already-married people to not refrain from
sex with one another. But “each man should have his own
wife,” Paul means they should do it…like do it. (St. James’s
Episcopal Church).

My opinion is that if a person cannot control his or her

urge for sex, he or she should marry for love's sake rather
than sex's sake. The inhabitants of Corinth were faced with
difficulties of prostitution and adultery in his writing to
the Corinthians, therefore he advised them to get married
rather than commit adultery and sex with prostitutes. Sex is
sacred since it was created by God for both men and women,
but it should be limited by the law of marriage. Outside of
marriage, sex is already a sin. Because we are fearfully and
wonderfully made in God's image, even our bodies are holy.
As a result, what we do with our bodies is likewise an act
of God's love.

4. Love is the highest virtue according to Paul. Write a

journal reflection on these biblical exhortations on love: 1
Cor 13:1-13; and Rom 12:9-21.
St. Paul University
Philippines
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan 3500
Paul describes the love he's talking about. It's not a
love of swollen feelings that may come and go. It's not the
love of flowery or eloquent words. This is God's love—from
the Greek agape—often described as "unconditional love" by
Christians. It is unconditional in the sense that it does
not depend on the one being loved, but on the commitment of
the one acting.

Love is patient and kind. It actively waits and

actively moves for the good of others. On the other hand,
love doesn't envy or boast, not even regarding the spiritual
gifts of one's self or others. Love is not arrogant,
convinced of one's superiority over others. Love is not
rude, meaning that it does not act indecently, sinning and
breaking cultural norms to bring attention to
one’s self.

Those who love like this have given up on seeking their

own status and satisfaction first and foremost. Instead,
they genuinely commit themselves to seeking good for other
believers. Because of that, they don't get irritable or
provoked when other people get in their way. The other
people are the point, not the obstacle. Love also means
truly letting go of past hurts instead of storing them up
and keeping a record or wrongs.

Love refuses to take any joy or pleasure from wrongdoing.

Instead, it declares that was is true is worth celebrating
above all. Love loves the truth. Love doesn't set limits on
love. Love does not declare, "This far and no further." Love
bears, or puts up with, all things for the good of other
believers. That is true even if that means loving from a
greater distance to avoid the active abuse of others.

Similarly, love believes all things, pushing the burden of

truthfulness onto others instead of carrying the burden of
uncovering falsehood. Love doesn't stop hoping for other
believers to do good, no matter the evidence of the past.
Love doesn't quit when the trials of life pile up. Love
keeps going.
