BONDS
What are Chemical Bonds?
Chemical bonds are a lasting attraction between atoms, in
an atom, there is the Electron which is Negatively charged;
The Proton which is Positively charged, and lastly the
Neutron which has no electric charge. Some Atoms have
more Electrons than others and some have more Protons.
Because some of the atoms have more or less than others
they either share or take some from other atoms.

TYPES OF
CHEMICAL BONDS
There are three primary types of Chemical Bonds
Those Chemical bonds are Ionic Bonding, Covalent Bonding, and
Metalic Bonding.
Ionic Bonding is a type of chemical bonding that usually occur
between metal and nonmetal ions.
Covalent Bonding is a type of chemical bonding that usually
occurs between nonmetals.
Metallic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that attracts force
between conduction electrons and positively charged metal ions.

IONIC
BONDING
IONIC BONDS
Occurs between metal and nonmetal ions.
It is formed when valence electrons are transferred from
one atom to the other to complete the outer electron
shell.
The atom losing one or more electrons becomes a cation
- a positively charged ion.
The atom gaining one or more electrons becomes an
anion - a negatively charged ion.

IONIC BONDS
COVALENT
COVALENT BONDS

BONDS
Occurs between nonmetals.

A covalent bond forms from the mutual sharing of one or

more pairs of electrons between two atoms.
Also forms when the difference between the
electronegativities of two atoms is too small for an
electron transfer to occur to form ions.
METALIC
BONDS
Attracts force between conduction electrons and
positively charged metal ions.
A metallic bond is formed when the valence electrons
are not associated with a particular atom or ion, but
exist as a "cloud" of electrons around the ion centers

THANK
YOU
As you may have seen from the examples;
Chemical bonds exist everywhere, From
what we eat, what we see, and what we
use. This is not all of it, there are still
hundreds of examples of objects that use
chemical bonds. So next time you see an
object, know that it may have gone through
Chemical Bonding.
