1. Why do you think biochemistry is one of the subjects you need to take in your chosen
course?
To fully understand how to treat the human body and behavior, nurses must first understand
how the body functions with its many processes involving molecules and the cells in it. The
subject Biochemistry reveals the essence of the biomolecules needed by the body to
maintain and continue the cellular activity. It is important that nurses understand the role
biochemistry plays in the chemical processes within our body in order to figure out the
abnormalities that are present in the patient.

2. Give at least 5 situations or examples, that you think your knowledge in the subject is
applicable in your field.
2.1 Digestion, it is a biochemical process that nurses often look into with patients who
suffer from indigestion. Understanding how this process works will help one to locate the
problem and from it, understand how to handle the patient.
2.2 A problem in one’s metabolism requires understanding the chemical process that occurs
with the hormones of the body.
2.3 Homeostasis is the state of balance in the body, when there is an imbalance, a nurse
who is well-informed about biochemistry can immediately asses the situation correctly and
efficiently.
2.4 A patient’s erratic or unusual behavior can be explained with biochemistry since the
hormones that influence human behavior are part of the subject.
2.5 A patient’s weak or exhausted state can be explained by biochemistry since it also deals
with aerobic metabolism (the production of energy in the body).
