Achievement Reflection

I applied for my first job at McDonalds on July 3rd of 2022. This led to my interview

which was conducted over the phone on the 4th and I was hired on the 6th. After that, I had my

orientation on the 13th to tell me about the restaurant and prepare me for my training shifts on the

26th and 28th. For my first week of working at McDonalds, I was given one 8-hour shift.

However, the store had asked for several shifts to be taken over the weekend due to an event

around the corner. So, I took 2 more shifts over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday which

gave me a total of 24 hours over the course of 3 days. My position is in customer service

meaning that my job is to make beverages, desserts, fries and hash browns, taking orders at the

counter and on a headset as well as making sure orders are correct, all the while ensuring every

customer experience is up to the highest standard as possible.

I have always had this goal of being the hardest worker in the room, especially for

something I am passionate about which is why I strive to be the best at my job. This being my

first job, means it has extra significance and of course helps me with one of my main goals of

getting this job which is to be able to save for future purchases and milestones such as my first

car and university. Another reason why I have such appreciation for my job is because of the

experience. I go there to do a job and I know that every time I walk into that store, I am doing the

best job I can do. This mindset has gotten me multiple customer compliments as well as

acknowledgement from my managers. I also love being able to interact with customers and my

co-workers. I think having a job can be a very rewarding experience and i look forward to

advancing and learning more at my job.

Having a job encourages you to build on your skills and be responsible for doing the best

job you can do. Some of the skills that are important at my job are responsibility, reliability,

patience, sociability, diligence, perseverance and time management. Although I have not yet

solidified my career goal, my future aspirations revolve around a central idea of business. I think

some of the most important skills I have continued to build on are diligence and time

management. Being able to persevere and get the job done regardless of setbacks as well as

manage my time is integral to any business.

This experience has made me more aware of what I enjoy and what I look for out of a

career which is to always keep busy, work hard, and have lots of interaction with

customers/clients. I really appreciate a challenge in my workplace and always having a goal to

work towards such as our goal at my job where we try to get every car through the drive-thru in

under two minutes which is not always possible but it is something we constantly work towards.

Although this job does not necessarily have a direct connection to my future, it helps me build

my skills as well as give me a good start for other jobs since the training at McDonalds is widely

considered a vigorous program that is able to educate its workers on multiple skills that can be

helpful in future careers as well.
