PROCEDURE
1 PURPOSE

To establish a procedure which:


1. Provides for a documented formal hand-over process to ensure the relevant equipment is available
for taking out of service for maintenance or repair.
2. To ensure a procedure is in place to safely carry out 500-hour maintenance on DL411 Drill Rig,
when necessary,
3. Ensure the isolation required for safe work is identified, effected, and tested.
4. Provide a formal hand-back process to ensure the equipment is restored normal safe operation
when the work is completed.

2 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to artisans trained and authorised to carry out maintenance on DL 411 Drill rig
and covers requirements for:
 Troubleshooting hydraulic systems under pressure
 Testing of live Trackless Mobile Equipment

3 SHE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS PROCEDURE

3.1 PPE -Standard PPE incl but not limited to overalls/work suit, gumboots/safety shoes, gloves, and goggles.
3.2 Tools- Standard and approved artisan tools.
3.3 Permits -Requisite permits include but not limited to safety documents, DL 411 operating permits.
3.4 Medicals- Valid Medical Certificate.
3.5 Safety Requirements
a) Remove all jewellery: -metal wrist watches, finger rings, bracelets, necklaces, dangling earrings, and
similar items such as mutton cloths and lanyards that can come into, get caught by or entangled by
rotating machinery parts.
b) Test for zero energy on machinery after following the isolation and lockout procedure.
c) Do not work under a component or device that is held up only by the hydraulics. - Use separate supports.
d) Stop the engine power pack and then tighten or repair leaking hoses.

e) Always rest the machine on stabiliser jacks before commencing any work on the Rigs.
f) Rest the front end horizontal on the ground.
g) Depressurise the hydraulic system before commencing any work and release static pressure in
the cylinder before removing the cylinder.
h) Position drip trays and plug disconnected hoses and cylinder.

4 PROCEDURE

4.1 Conduct a pre task risk assessment considering the work process flow.

4.2 Competent person to tram and park the machine on level ground (preferably in workshop)
4.3 Extend the rear stabiliser and front jacks.
4.4 Set the boom to normal position.
4.5 Position rock drill by extending the feed cylinder.
4.6 Switch off engine and follow the isolation and lockout procedure
4.7 Install the steering or centre articulation locking device
General
1. Wash machine
2. Check cracks/deformities

Rock drill
1. Tighten bolts according to correct specification, flush head, tie rod bolts, charge accumulators (4bar LP &
80bar HP), change water seals, check rotation coupling, check shank condition

Engine
1. Change oil and replace filter
2. Replace fuel filters and replace water separator
3. Check condition of V belt
4. Change coolant
5. Change primary and secondary air filters
6. Check hoses and replace if worn or leaking

Carrier
1. Change differential oils
2. Check brake disk for wear
3. Replace transmission oil filter and oil

Powerpack
1. Change hydraulic oil
2. Change oil filter (high pressure, return and breather)
3. Check and clean all electrical devices
4. Grease electrical motor

Boom
1. Check cylinder pins
2. Replace worn out hoses
3. Replace worn out cables
4. Check mounting and condition of the sensors
5. Lubricate machine

Leaks
1. Arrest all oil leaks
2. Wrap hoses

4.8 Remove lockout, switch on engine and test for functionality.


4.9 If equipment is back to normal operating condition, you can handover to the responsible official and operator.
