What This Module is About

This module covers the information and facts about foot


spa treatment and its beneficial effects and other essential
learning for the students to learn. It introduces the proper way of
performing such activity in order to provide best and high quality
performance for your future client.
This also give the advantages of foot massage, how is it
good for the body and how this impacts the mental state of a
person through relaxation.

grade 9 students as they conquer the world of Beauty and Nail
care and in developing their knowledge, skills and values align to

has been being used to contribute to the service that you have been providing to

this articulates the muscles and give them comfort.

By following this, you can perform foot massage really well.

LESSON 2.3

BASIC FOOT MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

These are the things you will need to perform basic foot massage:
 Lotion or liniment oil foot towel
 Cushion or pillow small plastic chair

Tips and Warnings:


 You’ll need to apply lotion or other essential oils in doing a massage to
prevent friction burns.
 Creams tend to be thicker than lotions and work well for foot massages.
 Oils work to soften the rough calluses on the bottom of feet and you can also
warm the oil or cream to make it more comfortable for the person receiving
the massage.

1. Hold the bottom of the foot with both hands. Begin


rubbing the top of the foot, slowly working your way down to
the sole of the foot. Apply more pressure as you get closer to
the sole. Reverse directions and rub the foot moving slowly
towards the top, reducing pressure as you go.
2. Rub the heel of the foot. Use your thumbs for this, making
small circles with medium to heavy pressure. Work your way
around the entire heel. Repeat this action on the ball of the
foot.

3. Use cross-fiber friction on the heels of the feet. This


means you use your thumbs to push up and down on the heel.
While one thumb is pushing up, the other should be pushing
down.

4. Massage around the ankle bone. Use both hands to rub in


a circular motion around the bone on either side, and gently
rub your fingers over the top of the bone.
5. Use a fist to massage the arch of the foot. With your
hand closed in a fist, use the tops of your fingers to apply
pressure to the arch. Roll your hand back and forth to knead
the skin gently.
6. Massage the toes. Spend time on each individual toe.

 Go to each toe and gently pull on it. This may cause
the joint to pop, but unless it causes the person
discomfort, continue to do this to each toe.
 Slide your index finger in the gap between each toe.
Spend time moving it back and forth, rubbing the base
of each toe with your index and thumb if desired.

What’s In?

We have learned from our previous lessons that nail is just like a human
being it needs food in order to survive. Protein substance is the main food of the
nails and helps prevent nail diseases and disorders. Learning the preventive
measures is essential to avoid severe condition in your nails and your client’s
nail. It is not just enough having knowledge, awareness on this, having best
practices keep your hands flexible, well-groomed and smooth especially if hand
massage is being done.

FOOT SPA PROCEDURES


SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Foot spa services are not recommended if
there is a sign of infection. Immediately refer to a physician. In order to
perform well the hand spa activity we need to practice
clean, sterilized tools and sanitized materials and equipment

1: Prepare and use necessary tools and supplies/materials.


2: Wash feet with warm water and soap before and other scrubbing.
3: Towel drt feet and apply with appropriate lotion.
4: Set foot spa machine to regulate heat and achieve required
melting of wax.
5: Determine and test appropriate temperature for heat tolerance of client.
6: Soak foot for 4 seconds for 3 consecutive times in wax and wrap
with plastic liners and boots.
7: Allow the paraffin wax to remain in place for 10 to 15 minutes.
8: Remove wax from foot according to manufacturer’s instructions.
9: Apply foot softening product and massage according to the
prescribed procedure.
10: Advise client after services on maintainenace program.
11: Confirm with client desired service outcome and to be recorded.

Sanitation Techniques

Sanitation is the application of measures to promote public health


and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Sterilization is the process of
destroying all living micro-organisms. These both techniques are applied in a
beauty salon involve the use of physical agents like heat and radiation; and chemical
agents like antiseptics and vapour fumigants.
Disinfectant is a substance used to control micro-organisms on non-
living surfaces such as tools, equipment and furniture while Antiseptic is
an agent that prevents the multiplication of microorganisms.

PREPARATION OF EUIPMENT TO BE SANITIZED


a. Read the direction on disinfectant.
b. Measure and mix the disinfectant solution.
c. Saturate a cleaning cloth with disinfectant solution and wipe the entire area.
d. Wipe the surface dry with paper and towel dry it.
e. Dispose of sanitizing solution and used towels.

PREPARATION OF METALS IMPLEMENTS FOR STERILIZATION


a. Soak the tools/implements in hot, soapy water solution to remove any debris
and oil residue. Rinse them thoroughly.
b. Place the tools/implements in a 70% to 90% alcohol solution for 20 minutes.
c. Remove the tools/implements from solution, wipe them dry, and place them
into a sterilizer.

PREPARATION OF SANITIZING JAR


a. Cleanse the sanitizing jar with disinfectant and wipe it dry.
b. Place thin layer of sterile cotton at the bottom of jar.
c. Remove implements from wet or dry sanitizer and place them into the jar,
handles up, except for metal nail files.
d. Fill the jar with 70% to 90% alcohol solution to cover cutting edges and tips
of orangewood sticks.
