III. Rationale:

PAKIEDIT RATIONALE KAHIT MAIKLI LANG Given the impact of

research on education decisions and activities, quality research is
anticipated. By quality, it demands that the inquiry is relevant and
researchable. Hence, research gaps must be evident in any attempt to pitch
a research concept. Researchers, therefore are expected to establish a
strong foundation of their scientific inquiry.

Based on the review of DO 16, S.2017-Research Management

Guidelines, the school need to support Department of Education’s (DepEd)
Policies on research agenda, policy and program development.
Consequently, teachers need to promote and strengthen the culture of
research in basic education. These research agenda were anchored on the
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) created through DepEd
Order No. 12, s. 2020 also called as “Adoption of the Basic Education
Learning Continuity Plan for School Year 2020-2021 in light of the COVID-
19 Public Health Emergency”. The target competencies in Practical
Research 2 include designing a research useful in daily life (CS_RS12-Id-e-
1), writing a research title (CS_RS12-Id-e-2), describing background of
research (CS_RS12-Id-e-3), stating research questions (CS_RS12-Id-e-4),
presenting written statement of the problem (CS_RS12-Id-e-7), indicating
scope and delimitation of the study (CS_RS12-Id-e-5), and reviewing of
relevant studies and related literature (CS_RS12-If-j-9).

By these means, the proponents with the support of the teachers of

Research, and their Subject Group Head for Research, as part of the G7
Friday Agenda program, and the technical support of SPECTARE – the
accredited student organization for Research, intend to hold FIRST OF
MANY: BNHS SHS Concept Pitch, a face-to-face activity that shall gather
Grade 12 student researchers taking Practical Research 2 to present their
research concepts through the title defense on October 17- 21, 2022, at the
School Learning Hub 2, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

This concept pitch week shall invite teacher- experts who will be
panelists on the agreed schedule (without any interference with the
teachers’ class schedule). Also, this activity shall identify the strengths and
weaknesses of students’ working title to assist them in improving their
research works in preparation for data gathering and data analysis
procedures. In the same manner, this proposal pledges support in
upholding the advocacies of SPECTARE in building the strong research
culture in BNHS-SHS and shall pave the way for additional outputs to be
featured in the completion of the first series of publication of ALPAS, the
current research journal of BNHS SHS. Most notably, this virtual program
is pursued to address the gaps identified in the G7 Friday Agenda by
initiating means to providing opportunities for teachers to constantly
improve themselves, hence, foster students’ lifelong learning skills and offer
them chances to prepare for their curriculum exits.

This activity, FIRST OF MANY: BNHS SHS Concept Pitch aims to:

1. invite teacher- experts who will be panelists on the agreed

schedule (without any interference with the teachers’ class
schedule);
2. identify the strengths and weaknesses of students’ working title to
assist them in improving their research works in preparation for
data gathering and data analysis procedures;
3. pledge support in upholding the advocacies of SPECTARE in
building the strong research culture in BNHS-SHS and shall pave
the way for additional outputs to be featured in the completion of
