6. Going to the Restaurat

Ascultaţi dialogul următor:

A: ” Do you have a table for two?”
B: ”Yes sir. Please be seated.
”Would you like to order?”
A: ”Could you bring me the menu, please?”
B: ”Yes sir. Right away.”
A: ”Would you like to have a cup of coffee or a cup of tea?”
C: ”I think I will have a cup of coffee, with no sugar. I don’t usually drink tea”.
A: ”Oh I see. I never drink tea. I don’t like the taste”.
C: ”Maybe you haven’t tried the right flavour. The one suited for your taste. It comes in
many assortments these days”.
A: ” I drink tea only when I have a cold or the flu”.
C: ”Well, don’t be so categoric. Give it a try. Look in the menu”.
A: ”Well, maybe I will have a cup of green tea with lemon. It is time to give it a try as you
say”.
B: ”Would you like to order?”
A: ”Yes please. A pot of green tea with lemon and a cup of coffee with no sugar for my
friend”.
B: ”Anything else?”
A: ”No, that would be all”.

1. Reascultaţi dialogul dintre cele personaje şi completaţi spaţiile goale cu cuvintele

lipsă.

Adjectivul (The Adjective)

În limba engleză adjectivele preced substantivele şi nu variază după gen şi număr.

Tipuri de adjective

• Adjective de opinie (opinion adjectives): cele care descriu ceea ce credem despre
cineva sau ceva.

Exemple: ugly, expensive, beautiful.

• Adjective de fapt (fact adjectives): cele care descriu cum sunt fiinţele sau obiectele
determinate cu adevărat.

Exemple: long, white, short, large.

Forme
Singular:
- this (acest, aceasta)
- that (acel, aceea)

• Plural:
- these (acesti, aceste)
- those (acei, acele)

Exemple:
This book is red.
That hat is blue.
These girls are our colleagues.

• Singular:

- his (lui, său, săi, sale)

• Plural:
- our (nostru, noastră, noştri, noastre)

*Gradele de comparaţie ale adjectivelor

a) Comparativul de egalitate/inferioritate

"as ... as" (tot atât de / la fel de)

"not as ... as" (nu atât de / nu la fel de)
"not so ... as" (nu atât de / nu la fel de)

Exemple:
He is as smart as his brother.
She is not as tall as her sister.
She is not as pretty as her cousin.

b) Comparativul de superioritate

- adjectivele scurte (monosilabice) primesc terminaţia "-er" la final.

- adjectivele mai lungi sunt precedate de adverbul “more” şi astfel formează comparativul de
superioritate.

Exemple:
tall-taller (înalt-mai înalt)
fast –faster (rapid -mai rapid)
big –bigger (mare -mai mare)

* Superlativul
- adjectivele scurte (monosilabice) primesc terminaţia "-est" la final.
- adjectivele mai lungi sunt precedate de “the most” şi astfel formează superlativul .

the fastest (cel mai rapid)
the biggest (cel mai mare)
