1-Introduction:
1. The voltage drop at the consumer not exceeds ±5% of the rated voltage.
2. The loss of power in the system it self should be small (± 10% as possible).
3. The maximum current passing through the conductor should be limited
to such a value as not too higher than the conductor rating.
4. The insulation resistance of the whole system should be very high so that
there is no undue leakage or danger to human life.
2-Scope of work :
This project consists of a modern compound. Including a Shopping Mall
and 6 Residential Towers.
3. Sizing of Transformers
4. Developing the Single Line Diagram for MV and LV Distribution
Boards, and for the Risers (as attached)
2
5. Developing the AutoCAD drawings for all plans of the compound
6. Presenting Full-Detailed Calculations of loads on each Transformer
7. Presenting Sample Calculations, using Computer Software (Calculux
and DOC)
Load Studies:
The loads are studied mainly to estimate loads. Maximum demand is necessary
to estimate the capacity of the power supply. Also the energy consumption is
necessary to estimate how much energy is necessary to supply the load during
the selected base period.
1. Demand.
By demand of a system is meant its load requirement in KVA. or kW.
average over a suitable specified interval of time of short duration.
2. Max. Demand.
The max. demand of an installation is defined as the greatest of all the
demand, which have occurred during a given period.
3. Connected Load.
It is the summation of power ratings of all electric requirements
connected to the power network.
4. Demand Factor.
It is the ratio of max. demand to the connected load. It indicates the
contribution of the devices towards the max. demand of the consumer. It varies
within very wide limits for various types of loads.
3
likely to occur simultaneously. The contribution of the max. demand of a
consumer to the power requirements of the group depends on the group
diversity factor.
So it is greater than unity and to find the effective demand at the
distribution transformer, we must divide the consumer's max. demand on the
G.D.F..
It gives an indication of the effective demand of the consumer group at the time
of system peak demand.
7. Load Factor.
It is the ratio of the average load to the peak load for certain period of time.
or it is the ratio of the energy consumed in a certain time to the energy which
would be consumed if the load was maintained at the max. value throughout
that time.
8. Capacity Factor.
It is the ratio of average annual load to the power plant capacity.
4
9. Utilization Factor.
It is the ratio of max. demand to the rayed capacity of plant.
U.F.=(max. demand) / (rated plant capacity)
