CHAPTER 1

1.0 INTRODUCTION
This industrial attachment training is an essential component of Cooperative University
curriculum and hence nobody graduates unless they have been attached. The attachment period is
usually a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve weeks, during which the student is
expected to acquire additional practical experience to complement, the course they are studying.
They are also exposed to the field of work and challenges faced which prepares them towards
their future careers. This report is the outcome of the twelve weeks practical training I had in
Princetech international ltd.

CHAPTER 2

2.0 ACCOUNT OF THE AIMS OF THE ATTACHMENT

There are some core reasons for industrial training. These are:
 To identify the interest of the student in the career she plans to pursue.
 To introduce students to work techniques that are not taught in class and provide
access to equipment unavailable in the environment of the University.
 To give students an opportunity to apply knowledge acquired into the real work
situation hence closing the gap between university work and the actual practice.
 To ensure that the transition from school to the world of work is smooth and to
enhance student contacts for job placement.
 To encourage and strengthen employers stake in institutional activities and in the
entire process of preparing students for employment in industry.

2.1 CONTRIBUTION ON WORK DONE

Maintaining professionalism between me and superiors and also colleagues.
Giving directions on activities I know how to perform to colleagues stuck.
Producing the results on tasks assigned to me in good time hence reducing time wastage.
Giving solutions to problems experienced in the office and in the department.

9
CHAPTER 3

3.0 ATTACHMENT EXPERIENCES

3.1 Key functions of the ICT department

 Installation of cctv surveillance cameras and maintenances.
 Installation of Wi-Fi networks and maintenances.
 General computer set up repair and maintenance

3.2 Activities, responsibilities and duties assigned

The activities I undertook were:

 Troubleshooting network problems

 Installing operating systems and different software
 Updated company website
 Full installation of cctv coverage
 Setting up and configuring routers
 Formatting and recovering the backed up files
 Full installation of wife networks

3.3 Skills and competencies gained

The knowledge and skills acquired during my attachment forms the foundation of my future
career development. The strategies learnt in solving network issues, creating websites and
updating them and the other activities will in the long run be applied in any entity and
undertaking that I may find myself into. Therefore, I am confident in applying the skills I
have acquired in any company that may give me an opportunity to offer my services in my
career.

10
3.4 Challenges faced
Sometimes the internet was very slow which crippled most tasks that operated with the use of
the internet.

The challenge of working with experienced company employees, at the begging was a
challenge.

3.5 Critique of university theory and activities in work place

Since we went through most things in class in theory, it was difficult to identify some of the
equipment that were used.

Maybe the university should consider involving more practical assignments rather than
paying more attention to the theory part of the course.

CHAPTER 4

4.0 CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATION AND REFERENCE

4.1 Conclusion
The first few days of the attachment were hard since I was getting to know fellow attacheés and
familiarizing with the working environment. As time went by, I was fully aware of my
surrounding and it turned out to be an amazing experience. I gained knowledge and skills which
are required in an ICT department. I could solve most network problems, create and update
responsive websites. I learnt how to intelligently interact with my superiors. I also proved the
saying that theory without practice is dead. I am a better person due to this attachment
experience both at work and personal level.

4.2 Recommendations
The government should build a bigger training lab for interns to support a larger number of
attaches.

The company should consider improving the equipment available in the ICT laboratory to ensure
diverse training for interns.
