CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1. BACKGROUND

Internships are professional learning experiences that provide students with a chance to gain
important knowledge and skills in a career-related field, that may or may not be directly related
to their academic coursework and closely supervised “hands-on” work-related learning
experiences or career interests. Internships provide opportunities for students to explore new
worlds, support career development, and learn new skills. By making internships a university
requirement, President University provides practical learning opportunities with internships for
the advancement of student education. Also, President University recognizes the importance of
experiential learning opportunities for both the educational advancement of students and the
growth of host employers' businesses and organizations.

The new curriculum at President University encouraged students to complete a minimum

16-week internship program during their seventh semester of study. While providing internship
opportunities through Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) as well as the regular ones,
President University is constantly involved in providing internship-related information through
the Internship and Career Center (ICC).

As an undergraduate Public Relations Student, I am bringing my ambition to seek opportunities

in PT. Yongwang Electronics Indonesia which is one of the world's largest electronics companies
headquartered in China and has branches all over the world. I wanted to challenge myself to
succeed and gain experience in the world of real work before I entered the workforce
.

their knowledge and skills and to provide the means for each student to mature both personally

internship period:

1. To prepare me for practical learning internship opportunities for educational advancement and
real-world experience in future work situations
2. To meet new people from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses which can be used
to develop a network of industry professionals that can be used when seeking full-time
employment.
3. To gain more experience and achievements for my resumes and portfolios, as well as expand
my professional network in the world of work in the future

1.3. BENEFITS

In this internship, I gained a lot of knowledge, different sets of skills, and experience that can
help me to develop my quality. I can provide advantages and benefits from having a
successful internship program for the company and my university. The following are the

CHAPTER III
Internship Activities

3.1. Internship Job Description and Responsibility

During my internship at PT. Yongwang Electronics Indonesia, I have an obligation to sell goods
in home appliances. With the host criteria, namely positive, enthusiastic, vibrant, talkative,
ambitious in selling, and a professional team player attitude, I managed to become a qualified
host streamer. Being able to interact with viewers is also a must here. Have a passion for talking
on camera and a passion for selling.

The host for Tik Tok live streaming in my company works under a commission-based salary.
Therefore the more we sell, the more income we can get. The following is an example of
calculating the bonus that a host gets if they earn according to the range below,

My duties and my responsibilities are, to receive briefs from the PIC of Tik Tok and be able to
understand the products knowledge thoroughly, be able to sell on live camera and live streaming
minimum of 6 hours in one day live streaming, be able to come on time, which is one hour or
two hours before the live streaming. I have the responsibility to sell as many goods as I can to

10
reach the target/month. Also, I have a duty to prepare content and script before starting live
activities. I make content with an amount of 12 contents a month such as moving images and still
images with complete copy kv on @tclelectronicsid TikTok.

Apart from that, I also must learn the product knowledge and memorize and apply the knowledge
during the live streaming. Being active, friendly, and used to being on camera is a must. I must
be able to persuade people to buy the product. At the end of the day, all hosts must fill out a
Google form for sales revenue results for one day, and at the end of the month, we actively
evaluated live streaming with PIC TikTok and other hosts.

3.2. Work-Flow
In my job as a live streamer, I am required to read a brief containing vouchers, gifts, and other
forms of promotion that will be distributed while doing live streaming.

In the four months I have been doing live streaming, I am required to be on live for 4 hours and
required to create content every day, so there are 20 contents in 1 month. I am required to write
down a copy of the KV content on a Google sheet, then consult my superiors (ci Vinna, Kak

11
Dame) via the TikTok content by WhatsApp group. After consulting the content that has been
made, and having received approval, it is immediately uploaded to the TikTok @tclelectronicid
account.

Usually, in one month there is a campaign that will be held in 1 week, for example, Super Brand
Day Sale, or PayDay Sale. For example, Payday Sale is a strategy to carry out promotions at the
end of the month, precisely on payday. Many cashbacks, vouchers, and free shipping are offered
to customers so that they will increase sales drastically. Meanwhile, the subsidy provided by Tik
Tok to increase the audience for live streaming TikTok @tclelectronicid during the Pay Day Sale
is very important so that the hosts can make the most of their live time.

12
Apart from that, we also conduct live-streaming activities in collaboration with other platforms.
For example, in 1 month as a live streaming host, I also live stream on Shopee, not only on Tik
Tok. Then, in February I also shot Live Streaming at the Lazada office to celebrate the Lazada
Epic 11th Birthday Sale. So, I was asked to shoot selling TCL products (TVs, washing machines,
and air conditioners) but focused on launching the latest TV series TCL A50 which will premiere
at the Lazada Birthday Sale on March 2, 2023. We are also required to use the dress code
provisions requested by Lazada directly.

13
So, the responsibilities and obligations that I have as a Live Streaming Host are as I described
above. There are lots of activities being carried out and not just racing on one platform. I am also
active in creating content as a form of TCL promotion to spread awareness to the local
community about Google and Android TV technology that can help make life easier. I also
always develop the latest ideas, the latest innovations to make Live Streaming more interesting
and not seem boring. I also actively participate in offline activities, by live streaming directly, not
only on TikTok.

3.3 Problems and Challenges

The problems I experienced during my internship as a Live Streaming Host were not that many.
But I need some adjustments so I can get used to it in the end. In the first month, I often felt
nervous when I did live streaming for the first time, but over time, I got used to it and could live
well. I am indeed a cheerful person and talk a lot when viewed from the point of view of all my
friends. But, when I have to live stream, I used to feel nervous and lost for words. I still find it
difficult to keep talking for 4 hours without stopping. But eventually, I got used to it and able to
talk non-stop for 4 hours. I also have difficulty responding quickly because while doing
promotions in live streaming, I have to divide my focus to read comments from viewers, as well
as making requests from viewers to do live product demos. Besides that, when doing live
streaming, the number of viewers is erratic and sometimes, it can drop dramatically. To keep the
audience's enthusiasm for watching live streaming, I always hold promotional sessions, questions
and answers, to games that involve the audience. Apart from that, at first, I had difficulty
answering audience questions regarding package delivery problems because it was already
related to an outside party, JNE. However, I studied product knowledge more and more
proficiently so that I could answer the problems raised by the audience in a relevant and detailed
way to increase the number of transaction opportunities.

I also felt a lack of communication while I worked, between customer service and my boss, PIC
TikTok, and the live stream hosts. Sometimes what the live streaming host says to the customer

14
is different from what the customer service said to the customer, causing misunderstandings. For
example, as a host, I provide a free back for purchasing a TCL type T8 TV, but when the
customer asks the customer service via DM TikTok, the customer service answers 'didn't get a
bracket'. For this reason, misunderstandings and miscommunications like this make it difficult
for me and other host friends.

15
CHAPTER IV
Personal Results and Points Learned

Learning new things is what I love the most in life. Previously, I never had experience as a Live
Streaming Host, let alone selling goods online. However, my current job is a new experience for
me that makes me learn many things and increase my skills. Of course, as a host, I am required
to promote TCL's products directly in front of the camera, and clearly describe these items to the
viewer. Usually, every time I do live, I have lots of questions and my job is to answer questions
from hundreds to thousands of people continuously. Reflecting on this, I feel required to have
adequate product knowledge, so I learn to master product knowledge in detail. I also learned to
have good focus and my forgetful personality has also been cured, I remember more easily and
forget less easily now. Apart from that, I also learned to genuinely understand how to
communicate effectively with audiences on Live Streaming. I have good time management skills
because I have to balance taking care of my college assignments, final thesis project, and work
simultaneously. I also understand the importance of having framework thinking, how to think
creatively, and can be delivered to the public effectively. I also learned how to master my skills
with good public speaking. The importance of public speaking also made me understand
personal branding. As a live stream host, I am required to have my own persona, so finally, I can
find the characteristics that I always highlight when doing live streaming. Lastly, I'm used to
practicing self-confidence every day because I have to interact in front of the camera and many
people. With high self-confidence, I feel able and capable to do my daily work without feeling
tired. I am grateful that I got a job at the age of 20 with the many benefits I get.

Having the chance to develop professionally and getting to know new people with a variety of
characteristics makes me grateful as well. My ability to study copywriting and marketing
communications in greater depth also improved through the work I did during my internship. I
also discovered that Communication Studies is different at every university, and I feel fortunate
to be studying at President University because I am choosing the right field. In this internship
program, some of the college courses I have taken from lecturers, such as Marketing

16
Communication, Corporate Communication, PR Visual PR Writing, and Strategic
Communication were particularly useful for me.

17
CHAPTER V
Recommendation

I provide the following solutions that might be able to help PT. Yongwang Electronics Indonesia
solves its challenges considering the conclusions I came to through my four-month internship
including, I suggest TCL to improve communication between staff, to make it more transparent.
The large number of complaints that occur from customers occur due to unclear communication
and frequently missed information, so improvements are needed. Smooth information will make
communication between staff, PIC TikTok, and live-streaming hosts even better, and will
minimize complaints from customers who will come in the future

I also have several recommendations for President University, among others:

Practical work is very useful for students to learn how to work in a more professional world.
Being very helpful for students to apply the knowledge they have gained on campus,
students can also experience working according to their respective knowledge or fields.

And I believe it would be much easier for President University if ICC held regular information
notifications regarding what students had to provide from the previous month for internship
preparation so that all the students are in 1 batch and always on the same page. If you get all the
students together and make sure that everyone is present it seems like too many, and most can't
attend for sure. However, the ICC may request representatives from each faculty or concentration
so that they can communicate information to other students.
