Learning Outcomes:
- LA 1.22 Value and adapt approximately two hundred high frequency words including
addresses and place names of Belize, including multi-syllabic and irregularly spelt ones,
for example, Xunantunich.

- LA 4.12 Appropriately choose and rewrite regular present and past simple (verb+ed) verb
forms in original writing in original speech and writing.

Previous Knowledge: Students can identify moral of a story.

Objectives: Through guided discussion and provided with materials, students will be able to:

- Accurately demonstrate fluency in their reading and spelling skills.

- Correctly use high frequency words to complete simple sentences.

- Cooperatively read, and discuss the use of verbs in the present and past tense.

Materials: laptop, pencil, laptop and projector

Concepts:

Introduction:

- Have students discuss and read the story All’s well that ends well.

- As a whole class story students will identify the parts of the story and its morals.

Development:

- As a whole class have students read the first line of the high frequency words.

- Have students display five high frequency words and use them to complete sentences.

- Have students explain the ways on how to convert present tense to their past tense using

the rules discussed previously mentioned.

- Have them follow the rule if you have a vowel then a consonant at the ending of a word

you will double the consonant and add + “ed” to form the past tense of the verb.

Closure:

- Review with students by answering and demonstrating the following:


- What is the past tense and what is the present tense?

Conclusion:

- Have students complete a worksheet and convert the present tense of verbs into the past

tense.

Extended Activity: Students will write sentences using the verb

stopped, and planned.
