TWO STATION MOTOR CONTROL WITH EMERGENCY STOP
(Non- Reversing)
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the activity, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the principle of operation of a two-station motor control.
2. Connect properly the components in a two-station motor control.
3. Observe safety measures while connecting the motor control circuit.

IV. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Side cutting pliers for splicing and cutting wires. In addition, we will utilize long nose pliers to provide
an extra grip and as a backup for splicing a wire. A wire stripper is also required for the easy removal of wire
insulation. A Philips screwdriver is also essential, mostly to tighten screws at each terminal where wires are
inserted. For the electrician, we will also need hand gloves to ensure his safety while performing the job. Lastly,
we'll need a multitester to see if any components of the circuit get power while the motor is running.

VI. PROCEDURE:
1. Present to the instructor for checking your simulated diagram.
2. Prepare tools, materials and devices needed for the activity. Check their condition using an
ohmmeter. Record continuity resistance reading on table 1 for actual activity execution.
3. Connect the circuit base on your design diagram if perform in actual.
4. Place the test probes of the ohmmeter to Line 1 and Line 2 to test the continuity of the circuit.
Observe resistance reading.
5. Press the start button for station 1 while the test probes are still at Line 1 and 2. Observe the
reading.
6. Do the same procedure for station 2 while the test probes are still at Line 1 and 2. Observe the
reading.
7. Each emergency stops per station conduct also resistance test for the whole circuit upon pressing
the mushroom head.
8. Trip the overload relay. Observe the reading also.
9. Energize the circuit only if you are totally sure of your connections are secured and correct since
no supervision of your Instructor for face to face checking, Safety First! Record your observation
in evaluation.
10. De-energize the circuit upon completion. Remove the plugs then clear the area.
11. If able to perform in actual, take pictures all conditions mentioned on number 12.
12. For simulated data, print screen all the conditions mentioned and record in the table 1 & 2.
a. IDLE condition power ON both power and control circuit.
b. START push button pressed for each station one at a time.
c. OVERLOAD TRIP condition.
d. OVERLOAD RESET condition.
e. RE-STARTED then pressed STOP push button for each station one at a time.
f. RE-STARTED then pressed EMERGENCY STOP push button for each station one at a time.
g. Unlocked EMERGENCY STOP push button.

VIII. CONCLUSION:
(Discuss how two station motor control function by referring to your design diagram)
There are two types of a circuit within the "Across the line motor starter", which are the power circuit
and the control circuit. Power Circuit, this circuit is where the energy coming from the power source comes
that will help to energize the whole circuit. Next is the control circuit, this circuit is where you will control the
motor by operating the contactor on and off.
However, the control circuit of this motor starter is slightly different than the basic Direct Online
starter, it is because this DOL starter is controlled from 2 stations which composed of two starts and a stop
push button, and includes 2 latching emergency-stop button. To operate the two-station motor control first
we need the supply of electricity by switching on the disconnecting switch, the main circuit breaker, and the
control circuit breaker. Now that the control circuit is energized it will show an indication from signal lamps
that it is still in an idle condition. Next, we will do the same procedure with the Start push button from stations
1 and 2, so first we push the "Start button" from either of the station, since it is parallel connected, next since
the button is momentary it is connected to the holding contact and when it is energized, the normally open
contacts now will close. After that, the energy will now flow continuously to the contactor coil and will energize
the motor, then as the motor starts the "Run" signal lamp will light up.
Furthermore, since we have two start push buttons, it is necessary to have two series-connected stop
push buttons. So since the motor is already energized and we have already started running the motor, we can
now control it to stop the motor and it can be controlled from both stations. After stopping the motor, it will
come back from its idle state thus lighting the idle signal lamp. Additionally, once the motor trips or overheats,
the red lamp should light up since the motor circuit has a protective device called a thermal overload relay.
Lastly, if the stop pushbutton does not work or if there is an issue, we may de-energize the motor by pressing
the emergency stop button from any of the two stations because we have two emergency stop buttons
connected in series.

continuous flow of current that can't be interrupted. However, if we connect the push button in series there
will be only one path where the current will flow, so if we push either one of them the contacts of N.C will
open and will immediately be cut off the current, hence will stop the motor from running.

4.Draw and simulate a circuit diagram of two start push button for synchronize operation with single
emergency stop and single stop push button. Discuss for what application such design of a circuit?
As we can see from the diagram, there are two start push-button for synchronizing operations; it also
includes a single stop and emergency stop push-buttons. So this kind of circuit design can be applied to an
industrial environment such as cranes and conveyor belts. Furthermore, its operation based on the example
is that the first and second start push-button is to start the first output and then the input of the process
depending on what is operated. Next, is the single stop push button which is used to stop the motor after the
operation is done. Lastly, the single emergency stop pushbutton that we can use for instance that there is an
emergency or need to stop the motor immediately.
