Example:
Design a square spread footing to carry a column dead load of 876.26 kN and a live load of 711.68 kN from a
400 mm square tied column containing 36mm bars as the principal column steel. The allowable soil pressure
is 215.47 kN/m2. Consider there is a 600 mm overburden weighing 16 kN/m3. Use ’c = 20.7 MPa, y = 276
MPa , and the strength method of the ACI CODE.
Given:
DL = 876.26 kN Overburden : t = 600 mm @ 16 kN / m3
LL = 711.68 kN c = 20.7 MPa
COL = 400 mm 2 y = 276 MPa
Allow. Soil Pressure = 215.47 kPa
Required : Design of square spread footing. Use strength method of the ACI Code.
Solution :
1) Estimate the footing weight and determine the plan of the footing.
