VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization.
It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based
research, curative services and prevention strategies in the greater Masaka region, South Western Uganda.
The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position to efficiently execute its research and service
activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill a vacant
position based at RAKAI HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM- Kalisizo, Kyotera district as indicated below:

Position: Data Management Officer (1 position )


Reporting to: Head of Data management and Bio-stat. Department
Location: Kalisizo – Kyotera

Major Function:
A Data Management officer is required to work on different clinical, behavioral and epidemiological
studies. The successful candidate will join a dedicated research team in Kalisizo, Kyotera; but may
occasionally be required to work at another station in Entebbe. The work will include routine data
management activities, design of data entry applications and carrying out routine analysis of data plus
generation of progress reports.

Qualifications & Skills:


• Bachelor of Statistics or BSc. Quantitative Economics (Hons).
• Applicant should have obtained at least a principle pass grade "C" in Mathematics at A’ Level.
• 1-year Experience in using relational databases (e.g. MS SQL Server, MS Access, or Oracle) and field
data collection methods.
• Analysis using STATA, SPSS or R will be an added advantage.

Person specifications:
- Pleasant, social, flexible, with good interpersonal skills and a spirit of team building/work
- Must be self-motivated, able to work under minimum supervision and well organized
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Fluent in both English and Luganda languages.
- Able and willing to work and reside in the rural setting of Kalisizo – Rakai District.
Position: Sample Records Officer (1 Position )
Reporting to: Data Management Officer
Location: Kalisizo – Kyotera

Major Function
It is principally to efficiently manage the huge sample archive at RHSP including the physical samples as
well the Freezer Works sample archival system. He/she will be responsible for archiving, tracking,
updating sample records, along with preparation of all relevant paperwork related to sample shipments
and management of other sample-related records. Conforming to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices
(GCLP) guidelines is a must. RHSP laboratory has both automated and/or manual assays in the fields of
chemistry, molecular biology, flowcytometry, hematology, microbiology and serology.

Key duties and responsibilities:


• Manage the freezer archive system (electronic and physical)
• Any other official duty as may be assigned by laboratory management

Qualifications, skills and experience:


• A Diploma in medical records or a related archives management course.
• At least 2 years of experience in a clinical/research multi disciplinary laboratory.
• Experience in sample archival will be an added advantage,however onsite training will be availed.
• Computer knowledge, especially Excel and Word packages
• Skill in professional code of conduct and ethics

The Person should be:


• Pleasant, social, hardworking, flexible, with a team work spirit/building.
• With good interpersonal skills, and high integrity.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).
• Self-motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.
• Willingness to work and reside in a rural setting - Rakai District.
• Willing and ready to work for longer hours.
