Gender Equality: A society favorable to men

The debate on whether women are mistreated compared to men has been going on for so long. A
general example of the unfair treatment of women is the gender pay gap, there are claims that the
difference in wages between men and women is significant because of the discrimination of gender in the
workplace, where women are most likely to be paid less. On the other hand, the opposition claims that
using merely gender as a reason for the gender pay gap is a radical and simplistic approach to the
subject, and they claim that there is not just one variable but a multi-variant equation for the difference in
the pay gap.

In this paper, we will talk about how society is portrayed to be unfair to women and why this claim
is a shallow analysis of how our society works, this paper will also discuss why society is treating
individuals pretty fairly in today's time.

Back in the day, the early feminist movement revolved around equal opportunities; the movement
fought for "their sacred right to the elective franchise,” or the right to vote. Previously, women weren't
getting into the workplace and stayed at home, until the great depression. During the great depression,
numerous male breadwinners lost their job forcing women to find "women's work" where they worked a
lower-paying job but more stable. In time women fought for their right to be able to participate in jobs that
are higher paying and be able to compete with the average men's salary; this led to the Equal Rights
Amendment which sought legal equality for women and banned discrimination on the basis of sex. At this
point, the treatment of men and women in terms of opportunity in society is pretty fair and equal.

Then came the modern radical feminist; these groups fought for equal outcomes, this entails that
no matter what the process is there should be an equal amount of pay for both men and women in their
respective workplaces. This is where the movement shows a flaw; if there are two individuals who have
the same salary regardless of their gender, who work the same job but differ in their effort, where one
works more efficiently and helps the company progress faster, and where one is lazy and poor in doing
their job, then it is unfair for the person who puts more effort to be paid the same amount of money as the
one who performs poorly.

The first formulation of categorical imperative can be applied to show the flaw of equality of
outcome, which is the universality of this maxim. If everyone gets the same amount of wage despite their
effort, then everyone who works harder will carry the burden of the workers who work poorly, which is not
universalizable, because then the people who work harder will eventually burn out and will cause society
to collapse.
In conclusion, there is fair treatment within the workspace, individuals who provide better results
tend to become more successful regardless of their gender, altho it can be stated that some lines of work
may favor either gender and in the end, there is a fair amount of equality in opportunity for both genders.
