Project Title: ACKNOWLEDGING THE HYDRAULIC JCB, A PROTOTYPE THAT

MEASURES PRESSURE AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY.

Project Time-frame:

1st week – Brainstorming, accumulation of ideas of possible prototypes, making of the

digital prototype, and the making of the proposal for the PIP.

2nd week – Actual proposal of the chosen prototype, approving or rejecting of the PIP, if
rejected think of another prototype and make another proposal, and if approved think of ways
how to improve and beautify the prototype for the next week.

3rd week – The making of the prototype if approved, and the representation of the
prototype, which is already a physically made one to be shown and presented in front of the
class, a continuation of the editing of the digital prototype will also be held this week, we will
also be preparing the tarpaulin when it is needed for the presentation.

II. Project Summary

In this Physics Investigatory Project, we propose creating a Hydraulic JCB. Our team
believes that this prototype will help our country whenever typhoons occur. If this will be created
in a larger form, this could help reduce damages and other losses in our community We will be
doing this prototype using simple materials, such as cardboard, syringes, glue, popsicle sticks,
etc. This project will take us around 1 week but we are going to do it in the 3 rd week given, and it
will cost us around 1200 to 1300 pesos.

III. Project Background

In our Physics Investigatory Project, we have developed a Hydraulic JCB as a prototype
that measures pressure by pascal’s law. Understanding pascal’s law which states that pressure
applied to an enclosed fluid will be transmitted without a change in magnitude to every point of
the fluid and to the walls of the container, we can manipulate it and apply it in a prototype which
is the Hydraulic JCB. As we all know here in the Philippines there has passed a typhoon that
caused major floods, and waters flowing out of riversides and rift rafts. By developing a
hydraulic JCB in a larger and real-life size (Excavator) we can use it in widening rivers in
preparation for possible floodings in the future, to be able to minimize damages, losses, and
victims in typhoons. We started the idea of making the hydraulic JCB as our prototype when our
teacher in physics sent a youtube video that gave us an idea of how it works and making it our
main project, helped us realize that even though it is already given, the hydraulic JCB’s are really
a big help in the community. The making of our prototype is gonna be held in different places
but for the majority of it, we are going to meet up at Yheanzie’s house to be able to accomplish
it. For more information about how we are going to make our Prototype according to pascal’s
law, we can proceed to https://www.techpacs.com/category/Project/31-183-579/Hydraulic-JCB-

IV. Project Objectives

The objectives of our project are:

1. To be able to make a proposal about making a prototype that measures quantity in physics

2. To be able to understand the concept of the prototype, and how it works, while acknowledging
the laws of physics around it.

4. To be able to make a digital representation of the prototype

3. If approved, being able to make an actual physical prototype that is functional in consideration
of aesthetic designing.

4. To be able to present the prototype physically and successfully.

5. To be able to make a tarpaulin background for our Physics Investigatory Project.

B. Project Deliverables
The first set of deliverables consists of the pre-assembled parts of the hydraulic JCB that
must be put together to create the JCB. The Foundation of a hydraulic JCB is laid by the Base.
The hydraulic JCB’s forearm will cause it to rise and lower, followed by the digging bucket,
which is the component that scoops up objects. The hydraulic JCB’s stem allows it to bend. The
glue will hold the little sticks to the parts so that they won’t fall off as the small sticks will
secure and join the parts together. The silicone hoses are premeasured and are used to transport
liquid from the controller to the hydraulic JCB. After that, the bottles that contain colored liquid
is also provided. The controller is given and is used to regulate and control the hydraulic JCB’s
parts. The syringes in each part and the controller, as well as all of the part’s precut holes, are
already made, just like the popsicle sticks in the bucket. And last but not least the cable ties that
are already applied to each part with the syringe. The parts are then already created in
accordance with the client’s requests (colors and drawings).

C. Project Risk Management

The Major risk in our Physics Investigatory Report about making a Prototype that
measures a quantity, which is a Hydraulic JCB that measures pressure is the possible lack of
funds to buy the necessary materials, and the possible failed attempts of making the prototype
successfully physically. As we have read the estimated budget for our project is 1200-1300 pesos
which are still quite high, even though some of the materials that we are going to use are already
provided or donated. That’s why there may be a risk of not having enough funds to buy materials
which will greatly impact the project because without materials it can’t function properly, and if
we have no prototype it will affect the school in the sense that they will lose one group that is
involved in the PIP. While the risk of possible failed attempts of making the prototype physically
is also a serious risk because knowing that we may also have the possibility of being short in
funds we can’t afford to fail in making the prototype. But there is a simple solution here if we
have short funds we can just solicit and ask for help from our parents while making sure that we
all understand and know-how is the process of making the prototype effectively and efficiently
without wasting resources, although it takes much effort and time it will definitely alleviate and
help solve the risks that are there.
