Listen to some important English language speeches

Analyze the components of an arousing speech
Warmup the requisite skills
Practice giving arousing speeches in small groups
Write some arousing speeches in a group
The most powerful speeches are the ones that address the most
important and pressing issues in a society. They are culturally
loaded and there is a lot of emotion about the issue in society.
Arousing speeches utilize the emotional energy of the speaker
and the audience. The speaker presents emotion and a cause
or reason. That elicits an emotional reaction amongst the
audience.
You must learn to set a mood, fan the flames of emotion, and
drive the listeners to complete an action.
What are the essential components of an arousing

Welcome to Business Presentation

This is week 8

Today, we’re going to do some activities.

We need to:
Practice speeches
Write a class speech
Write a group speech and practice it
And start writing our own
Doing an arousing presentation or speech requires you to break out of your
shell. You’ve got to put some emotion out there to stir up the emotion of the
audience.

It’s time to emote. Practice some key phrases…

Don’t forget body language!

Pound your fist, point aggressively, shake your fist, palm facing outward,
powerful grasp.

Furrow your brows and snarl like a wolf when you stress key words if you
want.
● We need to get this done, we need to do this, etc...
● We can no longer afford to wait/watch/be silent/etc...
● Together we can…! X 3
● No!
● Get out!
● Now is the time to…
● Are you threatening me?
● No one...and I mean no one....
● It’s not over until I say it’s over
You’re going to give passionate speeches to your group. Pick
a speech that we previewed or find one of your own.
Translate one from Vietnamese if you want. It’s up to you.
Break up into groups of 5 and take turns giving your
speeches. Give each other friendly advice about how they
can spice it up.
If you’re feeling brave, a few can deliver it to the whole class.
Class composition time!
We’re going to go back into the rooms and write our own
epic speech. You will vote on an important topic and we
will compose the speech together. Then, volunteers can
take turns presenting it.
Group composition time!
Now, go back in your rooms and make your own speech.
Pick a topic, a repetitive phrase, and a mood.
Then, compose your short arousing speech. It only
needs to be around 10 sentences. It can be longer if
want.
After you’re done, you’re going to come back and deliver
your speech to the class. Put forth your best speaker.
It’s time to write your own
Because the focus is on business English, you’ll need to constrain your topic to
something business related.
However, everything is monetized nowadays. So be creative and feel free to use
topics that you feel strongly about as long as you can fit it into the context of
business.
The speech should be no longer than 3 minutes. It isn’t a normal presentation.
You get up on stage and deliver a short speech on an important topic in the
business world and you do it with emotion.
You will deliver it in front of the entire class.
