Insecticidal Activity of

Lemongrass (cymbopogon)

Essential Oil as an Eco-

Friendly Agent against the

Black Cutworm Agrotis

ipsilon (lepidoptera:

Noctuidae)
Questions or Problems being Addressed
The destructive insect pest Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel)

(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a polyphagous species

targeting many economically important plants. The

extensive and arbitrary use of insecticides has resulted in

the build-up of insecticide resistance and pesticide

residues accumulating in food. Therefore, it is becoming

evident that alternative pest management tools are needed

to reduce risks to humans, the environment, and non-target

organisms, and at the same time, they should be used in

field application at the lowest cost.

Due to the fact that Black cutworm Agrotis Ipsilon is the

most significant species that damges garden fields. Many

are already interested of studying it.

RESEARCH PROBLEM
What can we use againts Black cutworm Agortis Ipsilon

(Lepidoptera:Noctuidea)?
Is the lemongrass essential oil as an agent in isecticidal activity

againts black cutworn agrotis ipsilon?

Lemon grass (cymbopogon)
Lemongrass is a potent herb that can help treat insomnia, stomach

and respiratory disorders, fever, and infections. The possible

antioxidant activity of the lemongrass may boost the immune system

and protects against antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It may

even help in balancing cholesterol levels, managing type 2 diabetes,

and promoting healthy skin. It is extensively used in aromatherapy and

helps combat fatigue, anxiety, and bad body odor even as a

repellant/insecticide.
Cymbopogon is also simple to grow and
frequently planted in front yards of homes for
both insecticide and the vagetable it produces.
This plant comes in a variety of forms, with the
main distinction being the vagetable shape and
color.
Statement of the problem
The main idea of this study is to determine the insecticidal properties

of Lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil against Black cutworm

Agrotis Ipsilon.

1.Is the lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil as an agent in

insecticidal activity againts black cut worm agrotis ipsilon?

2.Does the Lemon grass (cymbopogon) essential oil is more

effective than those insecticidal spray in the market?

3.Does Lemon grass (cymbopogon) as essntial oil for black cut

worm cost cheaper than thos insecticidal spray in the market?
Goals/ Expected Outcomes/ Hypothesis

Hypothesis
Alternative

1. The Lemongrass (cymbopogon ) essential oil is an agent in

insecticidal againts Black cutworm Agrotis Ipsilon.

2. The Lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil is more effective than

those insecticidal spray in the market.

3. The Lemongrass (cymbopogon) caused cheaper than those

insecticidal spray in the market.

Null

1. The Lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil fails as an

insecticidal against Black cutworm Agrotis Ipsilon.

2. The Insecticidal spray in the market is more effctive than

the insecticidal Lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil

against Black cutworm Agrotis Ipsilon.

3. The Insecticidal spray in the market caused cheaper than

the Insecticidal Lemongrass (cymbopogon) essential oil

againts Black cutworm Agrotis Ipsilon.

Engineering Goals/ Objectives

The aim of this study is to verify the existence of a new

insecticide against A. ipsilon. From this point of view, we

studied the lethal and sublethal concentrations of C. citratus

to evaluate the toxicity, and biological and biochemical

activities of lemongrass, C. citratus, essential oil on the black

cutworm A. ipsilon under controlled laboratory conditions for

possible use as a safe method of alternative approach to

chemical insecticides within an integrated pest control

program.
Expected Result

The researcher expects that the

Lemongrass (cymbopogon) will be an

effective essential oil as an agent in

insecticidal, offers better than buying

those insectidal spray in the market.

Description in Detail of the Methods or

Procedure

Methods
The raw material for this study is Lmeongrass

(cymbopogon) leaves, and is collected in P-8 Buhang

Magallnes, Agusan del Norte, but they may also be found

throughout Magallanes ADN. The leaves were then cut out

from their roots, the collected leaves of lemon grass was

then chop into small peices , save the chopped lemongrass

leaves for later use.

Prepare the big pot or medium pot, add any kind of oil

in the pan you can use coconut oil, sunflower oil, or

olive oil. Add the lemon grass then top it with oil or

coat the lemon grass with the oil, then boil it for 3-

5minutes in a low medium heat, stir it everyminute so

your mixture won't burnt. Prepare your strainer and

your container, after you boil it pur the mixture in to

the container with the strainer. Then you can have

your very own Eco- friendly insecticidal essential oil.
