Paulo I’m from The States and I’m a lady.
Diana Oh right! Whereabouts in The States?
Paulo California – I grew up in a town called Merced, but I'm studying in San Diego.
Diana What are you studying?
Paulo Medicine.
Diana Oh, OK. So what year are you in?
Paulo Fifth year!
Diana So you’ve almost finished?
Paulo Yay!
Diana So, do you have any brothers or sisters?
Paulo One brother.
Diana Older or younger?
Paulo Older. He’s 28.
Diana And what does he do?
Paulo He’s a computer engineer.

Paulo Well, we study hard.
Diana What do you do when you’re not studying?
Paulo Well, I spend time with my family. I like cooking and I also go to the gym to
keep fit.
Diana What kind of food are you into?
Paulo Well, curry and other Indian food, but I also cook Italian – pastas and stuff –
just modern vegetarian food. All kinds really. So, what about you? Where are
you from?
Diana Germany.
Paulo So what are you doing here?
Diana I’m here visiting my daughter and grandchildren.
Paulo Really? You don’t look old enough to have grandchildren!
Diana Oh, thank you. I’m almost 60 though!
Paulo Wow! You look great.
Diana Thanks.
Paulo So, what do you do back home? Are you retired?
Diana No. I work in a government department.
Paulo Oh right. Do you enjoy it?
Diana It’s OK. I like my colleagues. The hours are quite good. It’s good.
