lasers was numerically simulated
with MATLAB model
which is replacing the code written in MathCAD. The model took into account major energy
transfer processes – upconversion (ETU) and cross relaxation (CR). Two pumping methods
were studied for various Erbium concentrations.

Numerical Model

Traditional Er-lasers emit only one wavelength

MATLAB Modeling
To model the system we used the 4th order Runge-Kutta method. It provides a greater precision and produces
more reliable results in comparison with previously used 2nd order approximations. parameters.

Cascade Laser
Cascading is the process of generating multiple wavelengths when the same
energy level can serve simultaneously as the top and bottom level for different
laser actions. Cascading can increase the average power of the laser while
decreasing the heat produced by the system.

Simulation Results
Simulation results of the Er(1%):YLF laser operating at 1617 nm (4I13/2 → 4I15/2) under 972 nm (4I15/2 → 4I11/2) pumping.

Split cavity design allows manipulating a

particular cascade laser component
independently from others, while further
decreasing the heat produced by the
system.
