ASSIGNMENT # 3
MODULE 3

HUMAN FLOURISHING

THROUGH PROGRESS
AND DE-DEVELOPMENT

ASSIGNMENT

3.1

I AFFIRM THAT I SHALL NOT GIVE OR RECEIVE ANY UNAUTHORIZED HELP ON THIS
ASSIGNMENT, AND THAT ALL WORK SHALL BE MY OWN

1. What is the framework of the de-development of

rich countries all about?

After reading the essay I think It all comes down to changing the definition of development from
economic growth to life expectancy and happiness. According to the paradigm, poorer countries
should "catch on" to affluent ones rather than the other way around.
Thinking of strategies for rich countries to "catch down" to more acceptable levels of development
is central to the framework for the de-development of these nations. Every year, we have been
using more than half of our planet's resource capacity, and certain governments have developed
excessively. As a result, encouraging impoverished countries to develop is no longer an option;
rather, wealthy nations should stop developing.

2. How is the de-development framework different

from traditional frameworks of development?

I think It differs from other approaches because it emphasizes the true meaning of life rather than
economic expansion. Many nations will become more competent thanks to Hickle's suggested
framework because it fosters equity that may help other nations grow as well.
The de-development framework sees people living long, healthy, contented lives regardless of
class (lower, middle, or higher), which is the distinction between the two frameworks. Even though
our planet is overpopulated and it has negative effects, the traditional paradigm of development
looks for more economic expansion to make our lives even better. I compare it to people who are
striving to find better because they are not yet satisfied with what they have. It is

3. According to Hickel, how can rich countries de-

develop?

By reducing their spending to give other nations more possibilities, wealthy nations can
degenerate. There are folks whoAssignment
only buy things to flaunt
3.1their position. Stopping this is something
that needs to be done.

4. Some people might think that de-development is

about giving things up. How does Hickel explain that
this is not the case?
from the context, This is not about giving anything up, according to Hickel. And it most certainly has
nothing to do with choosing a life of pain or placing severe restrictions on human potential. Instead,
it's about developing a deeper awareness of our purpose in this place and our motivations.
