ADVERB
An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective and another adverb. It gives specific
meaning to them by answering to the questions:
a. Where (Adverb of place)
b. When (Adverb of time)
c. How (Adverb of manner)
d. To what extent (Adverb of degree)

VERB
MODAL VERBS are not like other verbs. They are auxiliary or helping verbs
like should, would, may, shall or must that is used to present possibility, ability or
permission.

Different Forms of Modal Verbs:
1. PROBABILITY or POSSIBILITY show certainty, speculation or we often call it
the ‘modals of deduction’ (may, might, could, can).
Example: The elephant might have fallen on the river from that old log.

2. ABILITY are modals that present skill (can, could).


Example: Sheila can play both piano and drums as good as she
sings.
3. OBLIGATION and ADVICE show necessity of an action (must, should, have to).
Example: A student must prepare for his/her class every day.

4. PERMISSION tell you what you are allowed to act or do (can, could, may).
Example: Can you please pass the salt?

SUM UP

A noun is a part of speech that names a person, place, thing, or idea. It


has different functions such as subject, direct object, indirect object, object of the
preposition and subject complement. An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective and
another adverb. Modal verbs are not like other verbs. They are auxiliary or helping
verbs like should, would, may, shall or must are used to present possibility, ability or
permission.
