Communication - Is an act of sharing and receiving messages and information verbally or


through gestures.

Five Step Communication Process

1. The communication process is the formation of the


message or idea that you want to convey to your
audience.
2. Conveying the message - Once the idea is created

convey the message.
3. Message Reception - Once the message has been
transmitted to the chosen recipient through the
chosen medium, the recipient then determine what it
mean to him/her.
4. Interpretation - This follows after the reception.
Once the message was received, the recipient then determines what it mean to him/her.
5. Response and Feedback - The recipient of the message interprets the information and
then formulates an appropriate response. The response depends largely upon the extent to
which the message was heard or seen and whether or not it was properly interpreted.

Errors in Communication
⮚ Making Assumptions - To make an assumption is to think of something as true without
proof. An important aspect of good communication is to be sincere and honest to others
about what we are thinking.
⮚ Avoiding Communications - Communication problems often arise because we do not say
how we feel, what we think and what we want.
⮚ Labeling - To label someone is to give someone a word or phrase according to how we think
of them as revealed through their actions. Labeling often leads to quarrels because the labels
we give to others, especially when we are angry, are negative and offensive words.
⮚ Alienating Messages - This is the use of negative words, critical of other person. When
both persons use this kind of messages, no one wins and everybody feels bad.

Whole Message consists of four parts.
