It is within my greatest interest to display much gratitude to all those who have contributed in

some way to the success and/or completion of this project.

Firstly, I would like to dedicate much thanks to God for providing strength, good health and

knowledge in order for me to complete this assignment.

Secondly, I would like to thank all of my family members who have provided assistance to

the researcher wherever necessary.

Last but not least, the researcher would like to present much appreciation to the teacher who

has provided necessary assistance and explained all areas that were unclear.
Introduction

Unemployment is a term that is used to refer to individuals who are employable and is

without a job or seeking a job.

The Darliston community is a small community in the parish of Westmoreland and is in

the county of Cornwall. It consists of a clinic, police station, post office, supermarket etc. I

have been a resident of the Darliston community for the last (8) eight years. During recent

times I have been observing the increasing levels of unemployment in the community and

wider environment. The researcher would therefore like to conduct a study on the primary

causes and effects of unemployment on youths and others within the community. There is a

variety of information that will be discussed in order to facilitate the investigations and to

draw on conclusions.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

What are the major causes and effects of unemployment in the Darliston community?

Research Questions

1) What are the main push factors of unemployment in the Darliston community?

2) What are the strategies that can be put in place to lessen the level of unemployment in

the
Darliston community?

3) What are the effects of unemployment on the residents of the Darliston community?

REASONSONS FOR SELECTING

AREA OF RESEARCH

There have been several reports of robberies and other criminal activities. I have been

anxious, enquired and decided to do a quick observation.

I have discovered a continual increase in the level of unemployment in the Darliston

community and wider environment in the past and near present, there are also situations

where residents of the community find it hard to find food and clothing and even money to

send the smaller ones to school. There are observations revealing that health related problems

such as depression have been caused by unemployment.

There are reasons to believe that this is as a result of unemployment, thus I endeavour to

investigate the matter to uncover the principal causes of the issue and the possible solutions

to reduce and control the issue.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

The method of investigation will be in the form of a questionnaire . The questionnaire was

structured containing fifteen (15) quality questions that will aid in the purpose of achieving a

well accurately executed research to satisfy the researcher and his understanding or view on

the topic.

A Questionnaire is a set of questions (printed, written etc.) for obtaining personal view and

information from individuals for the purpose of a survey or statistical study, according to

enoxforddictionaries.com.
With using this method:

It is easier to collect and analyse the data that has been issued to respondents.

And also large amounts of data can be collected from a wide number of people in

a very short, short period of time, effective for time management and quick

completion of the research.

However there are some disadvantages that may affect the method that may affect the

research include:

❖ Individuals may deliberately not respond to certain questions which may be vital to

the research and collection of data.

❖ The respondent(s) may not interpret all questions well and as a result unintentional

information entered.

PROCEDURE FOR DATA COLLECTION

In collection of the data, fifteen (15) questions were created by the researcher. 17 copies

were printed and 14 of these copies were handed to a person who strongly requested to assist,

while the researcher handed out the other copies.

The questionnaire was distributed to residents in the community. The respondents were

allotted a period of (3) and a half days to fully complete the questionnaire. At the end of such

a given period, all individuals returned the questionnaire completed to the designated area, to

the volunteering assistant who tallied to ensure all were collected. The collected

questionnaires were then handed to the researcher to continue analysis. The questionnaires

were distributed on the 7 of March 2021 and were relatively collected on the 10th of March

2021 ( according to the above process ).

From the evaluation of the data it was revealed that 60 % were males and 40% (of the

individuals) were females.

A variety of strategies may be implemented by the Government ( and individuals) to lessen

and eliminate the negative effects of unemployment on any person today. The following are

recommended strategies that may be effective if used.

A recommendation is to reduce unemployment in the circulate in schools should reflect on

emphasis on techinal subjects such as welding etc.

Government should provide provide programme for those who has been affected by
unemployment.

CONCLUSION

From the research conducted, it can be concluded that:

The unemployment rate in the Darliston community and those within its residents are

drastically affected by its negative effects. It is also fair to say that many residents of the

community interact with those who unemployment prey on. There is adequate evidence that

there may be negative effects if this issue is not solved within a short period of time.

However, from the data evaluated, even though few in number there are persons within the

community who will uplift and encourage those who are affected.
