Section 2 – Declaration Policy of RA 9163 In your own words, how do
states that “It is hereby affirmed the prime you define National Service
duty of the government to serve and Training Program?
protect its citizens. In turn, it shall be the
responsibility of all citizens to defend the
security of the State and in fulfillment
thereof, the government may require each
citizen to render personal, military, or civil
service.” How can you contribute to the
State as a student of NSTP?
As a college student at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, I am required to

take NSTP or National Service Training Program even though I did not know what is it or
what programs are included here. However, I am willing to learn about this because I
know it will help me to improve my skills and enhance my knowledge. Since I am just a
student, I cannot contribute that much to the state but in some way, I know my little
contribution can have a role in the state. I can contribute to the state by simply being a
responsible citizen and simply being aware of the issues that are present in the state. This
is the very basic thing for us to contribute or to make difference in our society. Since I do
not have any experience in any NSTP activities, the only thing that I can do to contribute
to the state is to spread awareness about the condition of our society or our country to
those people who did not have any access to social media. For instance, my grandfather.
Since he is now a senior citizen, he can no longer keep up with us or with the teenagers
who use social media to get updates about what is happening in our country, he no
longer knows if there is something that we must prevent. Every day, he used to collect
recyclable materials like plastic bottles as his job and I always told him to wear a
facemask because there is still COVID-19. Before, there was a time that he still go out
even though we are in quarantine, and because of that, the police officer talk to him.
Since that day, I always update him about what is happening around us based on the
news that I watched on Facebook or youtube. These small efforts can have a role and
can contribute to our society. Sometimes, we do not need to do something extravagant
because even the smallest things can help contribute to society. Furthermore, there are
many things that we can do to contribute to the state as a student of NSTP, we can plant
a tree, donate blood, or donate some unused clothes to those people who were ravaged
by a typhoon. All these things can make difference to the state, so always remember that
even though you are just a student, you can still contribute to our society.

From my perspective, National Service Training Program or NSTP is a
program that contains activities that can help us to enhance and develop
our skills. It is the program that will teach us to be prepared for our future.
It includes services that will help to establish our consciousness about
what is happening around us. By that, we will be more aware of the issues
or problems that our country is facing and we will know what we need to
do to at least contribute through small things or efforts. National Service
Training Program was designed to develop our physical, moral, spiritual,
intellectual, and social well-being. It has three program components
which are Reserve Officers Training Corps or what we called ROTC,
Literacy Training Service or LTS, and the Civic Welfare Training Service or
CTWS. These three components will help the students to enhance their
skills about what they want to be in the future. For example, if you want to
be a teacher, you need to take LTS in your college because it will train
and encourage you to be a teacher on how to count, write and read or
depending on the needs of society. Moreover, National Service Training
Program is a program that provides services for the enhancement of
youth's skills, knowledge, and attributes and the development of youth's
interest in community service. It also helps us to be a better version of
ourselves, to be a leader, or to be volunteers in case society needs our
service.
