The first shot is peaceful, a view out of the window of the apartment into the streets. It
cuts to a view of the books on her bedside table before it is suddenly interrupted by
the overly blaring sounds of an alarm on their phone. We cut to the phone on the bed
with the alarm visible.
ALEX wakes up to the sound of their alarm blaring. ALEX’S hand comes down and
slams the alarm shut, and when the alarm turns off the title name appears.
After a few seconds of the title name, we have a centralised shot of ALEX’S bedroom
in their apartment. Their room is pretty empty, a few books on the side
In the centre of the shot, ALEX gets shoots out of bed and sighs. They get up and
move to the wardrobe, grabs clothes and move back to the bathroom.
ALEX
Shit, shit. I’m running late.
The door opens and we mask to them in the kitchen. The trucking shot continues into
the kitchen where they grab a bit of fruit. ALEX runs past the camera and we hear a
door slam.
OSCAR
(grinning, handing a checklist to ALEX)
Why, it is nice of you to join us Dr Rossi. Here is the list of patients
you are to take care of today.
ALEX
(nods and smiles)
Thank you Dr Ward.
(smile fades)
There’s a lot of COVID patients today. A lot more than yesterday.
OSCAR
(frowns and nods)
Make sure to keep all your PPI on today, change the gloves and mask
when you switch patients. We cannot risk anymore patients getting ill.
The pandemic is bad enough as it is, we cannot be spreading it around
our already shrinking wards.
ALEX
(nods)
I understand, Doctor. I will do my best to be careful.
OSCAR

(nods)
And also, be on high alert, I might need you to join us in the
emergency surgery room. A lot of high-risk patients have caught
COVID, so I may be needing your assistance. You might be witnessing
a few deaths in the near future.
ALEX
Yes sir, I’ll be ready whenever you need me. I’m willing to take that
risk.
OSCAR
(nods)
Alright, there are some possible mental issues that can come with that.
I want you to find me immediately if you start to experience anything.
I need my doctors healthy; both mentally and physically.
ALEX
(nods)
I understand, don’t you worry Dr Ward. Now, I’ll start my patient list
and see you when needed.
(walks away)
A black screen, peaceful before it cuts to an alarm blaring, louder than yesterday.
ALEX shoots awake and is sat there for a moment before throwing the covers over
the camera to cut to the next scene.
MEMORY FLASH:
THE HOSPITAL, DURING SURGERY.
The lights blue and dull. The screen is blurry and there are doctors operating on a
body.

ALEX hesitates, slowly picking up the spoon and putting it back in the draw and just
grabbing something else to eat and walking out of shot.
ALEX runs back into the apartment, they are shaking and drop to the floor in the
kitchen. They sit, holding their chest and take deep breathes. the camera sits across
from them and fades to getting closer and closer to their face before zooming into
their eyes and zooming out to the scene in the hospital.
MEMORY FLASH
The heart monitor’s pace picks up, the faster it gets the louder it does. The camera is
in a POV shot, they are staring down at a body, just staring at the blood on their
gloves and then back at the body. As the monitor flatlines, the scene fades to black.
ALEX is next seen in the bathroom, brushing their teeth and they look exhausted.
HOSPITAL – MORNING
OSCAR is waiting for ALEX with a small smile. He waves at her and beckons her
older. ALEX walks over and gives a forced smile.
ALEX
(nods)
Dr Ward.
OSCAR
Dr Rossi. How are you? You weren’t meant to be in for another few
days.
ALEX
I know, but I… uhm.
OSCAR
(raises an eyebrow)
Dr Rossi? I know it’s hard, what you saw, with what you witnessed,
but I need you to speak to me so we can help you.
ALEX
(nods, anxious)
I know, I know. It’s just so much. It’s horrible. I can’t… I just can’t.
OSCAR
(nods)

That’s alright. Things like this will be hard. My first time seeing
something like this was hard too. It’s something you can never fully
get over, it’ll stick with you for life, but the pain becomes more
bearable and that’s ok. Would you like me to help you or we offer
counselling, confidential counselling if you want? You don’t have to
but I want you to know there are ways out of this and there are people
here to help you.
ALEX
Thank you, Dr Ward, I’ll have a think and give something a try.
