Homework Policy:
You are responsible for all homework assignments given. They should be written in your agendas and should be turned in on the due date. Points will be deducted for late assignments.

Course Timeline:
Week 1 and 2: 4/5-4/8 Introduction to Careers in Art Crew Selection and Groups for Props Jobs: Stage Crew, Ushers, Concessions, Slideshow, Lead Prop Designers, Prop Director, Hair/Make-Up Designer, Graphic Designer for Program, Advertising Director, T-shirt Designer Sketchbook #1: Draw compete sketches for your set/prop design ideas. Your ideas should be done in color and be exactly how they will look on stage. Week 1 and 2: 4/12-4/15 Project assignment for prop groups: o Egg in Tree o Truffula Trees o Pillberry Bush o McGurkus Circus/Shadow Puppets o Judge Stand o Seussian Piano

Week 3: 4/19-4/22 Work on props Sketchbook #3 Week 4: 4/26-4/2 Seussical Studio Tome Sketchbook #4 Week 5: 5/3 -5/6 Finalize all Props and Critique Final Projects Crew will prepare for play Sketchbook #5 Week 6: 5/10-5/13 Seussical Week: Load In and Strike Dates will be announced **Crew members will need to plan on going to the theater on select days until 6:00 p.m. Sketchbook #6 Week 7: 5/17-5/20 Job Assignment: Graphic Design/Video Game Design Sketchbook #7 Week 8: 5/24-5/27 Job Assignment: Architect/ Interior Architect/ Urban Designer Sketchbook #8 Week 9: 5/31-6/3 Job Assignment: Cartoonist/Illustrator/Animator Sketchbook #9 Week 10: 6/7-6/10 Job Assignment: Research Project

You will fill out an application for the following jobs and have a brief interview before you are hired. Each student will be responsible for holding one position and will be a large part of your grade this quarter. Please read the descriptions below and select your top three positions that you would like to apply for. Crew: 5 positions: The job of being in crew will only be given to students who have shown superior responsibility skills and are mature enough to handle this position. These students will be an integral part of the musical team and will work closely with actors, director, and the stage manager. These students will be noted in the program, their names will be on the Seussical t-shirt, they will be called during curtain call, and will be able to go to the cast party after the final production. Students will often be working independently and will report to Justin Bauldree, who is the stage manager for this production. We will also hire one person from the crew to be our Prop Director, who will be in charge of all props needed and making sure we have everything ready to go during the performance. Please note on your application if you are interested in this postion. Students who are hired to be on crew will be required to: o Be at the Burning Coal Theater on Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 10th from 2:15-7:00 p.m. o Be at every performance 1 hrs before performance time. (May 11, May 12, May 13, and May 14) o Wear all black o Have at least one teacher reference o Interview with Mrs. Northrup and Mrs. Tatum before school from 8:15-8:30 Ushers: 2 positions This position will require students to pass out programs and to make sure traffic going into the theater does not disrupt the show. You will be responsible for making sure food and drinks are not allowed in the theater. You may also be helping Mrs. Bauldree with selling tickets and are required to be at every performance. Concessions: 2 positions: These students will be coming up with creative food and drink options to sell at the Musical. This position requires students who are good at basic math, have great people skills, and are able to sell concessions every performance. You will plan the food items to sell, manage money, and work with the advertising director to make signs. You will need to be at every performance and arrive early in time to set up. Technology Director: 1 position This person will be in charge of creating a slide show for the production. You will take pictures of students working on the props and students rehearsing in the play. You will need to be proficient in PowerPoint and be able to work independently on this project. You will also be working closely with the Graphic designer and assist where needed. Graphic Designer: 1 postion This graphic designer will be designing the program for the musical. You will need to be proficient with Microsoft Publisher and be able to work independently. This person will be working closely with the Technology director, advertising director, and the T-shirt designer.

Job Descriptions

Hair/Make-up Designer: 1 postion: This person will work with the stage manager and Mrs. Northrup to plan hair and make-up designs for the show. This person should have knowledge of applying stage make-up and be able to draw to create sketches of their ideas. The person will need to research and be able to explain their ideas to the stage manager. You will need to be at all shows in order to help the actors prepare for the performance. Advertising Director: 1 position: The advertising directors job will be to promote the show. You will be creating the show poster and deciding where we need to advertise and how we will advertise this production. We are hoping to sell out all of the shows, so this person will need to be creative in coming up with strategies to do this. This person will help the t-shirt designer and the graphic designer to make sure the ideas for the program and t-shirts are carried out. T-shirt Designer: 1 position-This person will design the shirt for the Musical. The job will consist of sketching ideas and being able to present the final design. We will work with a local graphics design company to order these t-shirts. This person will also help with creating flyer to sell the tshirts and keeping track of order forms.

Floater: 1- This person will be available to help any position as needed. The floater position should be someone who is flexible,, dependable, and has knowledge of all of these positions since they will be assisting everyone for many different things. _____________________________________________________________________________________
