AC CAPACITORS

Assalamualaikum Wr.Wb,
Hi good afternoon Mam and everyone. Could I have your attention please ?
First of all, I would like to say thanks to u all for having me today.
Let me introduce my self, my name is Muhammad Hanif Hidayat, but you can call me
Hanif, I am studying at Semarang State Polytechnic, majoring in Electrical Engineering. I am
currently in the fifth semester at class LT3A.
Today I wanna talk about Capacitors. Based on our topic, we’ll go over from the
definition of capacitors, describing symbols and types of capacitors, capacitors materials,
function of capacitors, and the application of capacitors.
There will be Q n A session after my presentation is done. Therefore if you have
question please keep them until the end of the presentation.
Well, we can make a start to my presentation
First lets talk about the definition of capacitors, capacitors is electrical
equipment/electronic components used to store electrical energy in a very short time to be
released back quickly. In its simplest form, a capacitor consists of two pieces of metal
separated by a non conducting layer called electricity. Capacitor's ability to store energy is
called the capacity / capacitance expressed in farads (F).
Okay, next we going to second topic, that is describing symbol and types of
capacitors. Based on the insulator material and its value, capacitors can be divided
into 2 types, namely Fixed value capacitors and Changing value capacitors
For example, fixed value capacitors is :
 Electrolytic capacitors, tantalum capacitors, ceramik capacitors, polyester
capacitors, mica capacitors, film capacitors, paper capacitors.
For example changing value capacitors is :
 Variable Condenser (Varco)
 Trimmer

That’s the Symbols and Types contained in the Capacitors, now we are moving on to
third topic that is capacitors material:

The structure of a capacitor is made of 2 metal plates separated by a dielectric material.

Commonly known dielectric materials such as vacuum air, ceramics, glass and others.

Now moving it the fourth topic that is Function of capacitors:

In its application the capacitor is used as a filter, DC voltage leveler which is used to
change the AC voltage to DC, AC wave generator or oscillator and so on, and can also function
as impedance (resistance whose value depends on the given frequency), to save power.
electricity in fluorescent lamps.

Oke, And then the next one, there is characteristic of capacitors

Capacitor Characteristics Are:
 Against dc voltage is a very large resistance.
 Against ac voltage has a resistance that varies according to the working
frequency.
 Against ac voltage will cause a phase shift, where the current 90o precedes the
voltage.

Now we are moving to the last topic that is the application

There are several applications of capacitors in our daily lives. Some electronic devices
that use capacitors include:
1. Amplifier
2. Neon lights

3.Power supply
4. Radio
5. Camera flash
Okay, from the 6 topics we discussed earlier, I’d like to quickly recap to the key
Capacitors are electronic components used to store electrical energy in a very short time
to be released back quickly, capacitors can be divided into 2 types namely Fixed value
capacitors and Changing value capacitors, In its application the capacitor is used as a filter, DC
voltage leveler which is used to change the AC voltage to DC.

So that’s all from me, is there any question?, thank you very much for your nice
attention, I hope this presentation has given you information about capacitors. sorry if I make
a mistake in explaining. Good afternoon, Wassalamualaikum wr wb
