Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

Article XI: The Teacher as a Person

Teachers serve as a role model to their students, family, co-workers, and other people,
in school and the community. Hence, a teacher should display and maintain a good
character that the people around him would look up to and imitate. And according to
Art. XI of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, it is the highest obligation of a
teacher to live with dignity at all times, self-discipline that manifests self-worth and self-
respect and the recognition of God in everything he opts to do.

A dignified teacher acts in an honorable, worth way and possesses self-discipline.


Wherein, a teacher is expected to be goal-driven or to have the ability to focus intently
on the task, with the inner strength of self-control against temptations. A teacher who
lives in dignity respects oneself and the others. He is fair amongst students and other
people in school and community and respects every individual despite of cultural
diversity, sex preferences, religion and etc.

A God-fearing teacher who abides the 10 commandments is a teacher whose heart is


genuine and pure towards his relationship to his students, co-workers and his behaviour
in the community. A God-centered life is a life of good deeds which adheres to,
observe, practice and promote ethical and moral principles, standards and values.

Teachers who live with dignified life, responsible and efficient in his teaching career,
has a heart for everyone and a life abiding God's will is awarded by the Department of
Education and the Civil Service Commission award ''The Model Teacher Award''. This
award is for teachers who do exemplary work and dignified behavior both in school and
in the community.
