Course Name: (58545) Mach 121: Hand and Measuring Tools

Course Schedule: TTH (9:00 AM – 10:30 AM)

Student’s Name: John David T. Pega

Instructor’s Name: Orland Fontanoza

Guide and Procedure:

I. Illustrate the following measuring instruments.

a. Level bar

b. Scriber

c. L – Square

d. Depth Gauge

e. Feeler Gauge

f. Screw Pitch Gauge

II. Below each illustrated measuring instruments, write down the uses and functions.
Level Bar

A level indicates the horizontal plane. With a bubble of air inside a vial of encased liquid, the level shows
when its frame is exactly horizontal with the earth's surface, called "level." Longer levels typically have
additional vials turned perpendicular so the tool can measure vertical "plumb."

Scriber

A scriber is a hand tool used in metal work to mark lines on workpieces, prior to machining. The process
of using a scriber is called scribing and is just part of the process of marking out.
L - Square

An L-shaped square used in woodworking for checking an inside or outside angle when assembling
workpieces, such as boxes. They are designed to be rigid enough to be clamped in place. A set square is
used in technical drawing, providing a straightedge at a right angle or another particular planar angle to
a baseline.

Depth Gauge

A depth gauge is an instrument for measuring depth below a reference surface. They include depth
gauges for underwater diving and similar applications, and engineering instruments used to measure the
depth of holes and indentations from a reference surface.
Feeler Gauge

Feeler Gauges are used to precisely determine the size of small gaps between two objects that are in
close proximity and usually consist of several finger-shaped strips of thin metal which vary in thickness
(also known as leaves or blades), secured at one end by a pivot pin.

Screw Pitch Gauge

A standard thread gauge is a device used to measure the pitch, form, and threads' depth. The indicator
is also often applied to bolt holes to analyze the size of the hole. It will typically be an inexpensive tool
used in the industry that will allow you to distinguish between different threads.
