The pervasiveness of culture and Implications on management practices

Introduction

Business leaders and managers are required to provide results regardless of their cultural

affiliations or individual areas where they operate. These results are organized in terms of

achieving the specific purpose which mostly aligns with the wealth maximization as per the

needs in the commercial context. Business leaders have the responsibility of achieving the best

out of the human resources provided to them which is defined as the best resource available to

any organization. The social aspects of any organization demand that there should be an

operating environment that presents every individual with their individual goals which are

diverse and present collective expectations as well as objectives that align with the long-term

goals of the organization (Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). The objectives can fail to get aligned with

the organization and in other cases, they may be aligned with the collective expectations as well

as goals when there are no contradictions. The unique cases which the business leader identifies

are aligned with the fostering of an environment where every employee will have a common

direction in the achievement of the organizational goals while ensuring that they also achieve

their individual goals and the collective approach of the individual setting.

For the environment which has been discussed, there is a case of unique cultural

manifestations for the employees will have to understand and be able to operate in as required in

the long run. There is also a need to understand the felicitation of functions of management as it

is applied in the business context (De Aguiar et al., 2019). The act of globalization is an

inevitable element especially in the 21st century and this, in turn, has brought about cross-

culturalization (Mate et al., 2019). Also, the world has continued to become homogenous and

this has brought about distinctions between markets and also the disappearance of some products
3

in the market around the globe (Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). This has resulted in management

becoming an all-encompassed discipline. In addition, the differences which exist among nations

have been a factor that has resulted in differences among people due to differences in the ethnic

groups, cultural affiliations, and how people relate with people from other cultures. The claims

for a right to culture by many nations have come out to be a crucial trademark that helps in

intellectual rights protection as well as the interest from a national perspective. The growth of

these policies has been brought about due to cultural protectionism in realizing the ultimate goal

of globalization in the 21st century. The paper will answer the important questions of the

pervasiveness of culture and its implication in management practices by using five practical

organizational cases.

Mcdonalds case

Mcdonald being started in the united states has received significant challenges in how

they behave in other cultures. Human beings tend to behave with a drive that is deep inside and

that which is controlled by the individual cultures (Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). As such, when a

person goes to another country, they tend to behave how people in that country behave and this

can result in some cases people making very poor decisions due to the environmental changes

(Jeon et al., 2016). With the development of globalization, many of the companies have been

going global across different cultures and this has increased the need to adapt to the different

environments in which they expand to. Although the cultural influence in the case of

globalization is of less significance to the policymakers, the consequences are of significant

impacts, especially for the economic growth. Food for instance is a crucial element in any of the

defining cultures and the changes in the foods which people of a particular culture eat can have
4

significant impacts on the harmonious living among the people as well as the role of

policymakers (Jeon et al., 2016). This is an issue that MacDonalds has faced when spreading into

new cultures. The transformation has been entirely linked to the corruption of the new cultures

especially where cases of fast foods have not been well known to the locals. The company has

therefore made numerous changes to the foods they import to new cultures to ensure they align

with their cultures.

In exposing their foods to new cultures, Mcdonalds' has engaged in ensuring that they

conform to the local cultures to ensure there is no case of confrontation. The company has

ensured that the overseas franchise is locally owned and therefore the company has made a great

stride in ensuring that the raw materials for the products they import are purchased from the local

communities where they import their goods (Mate et al., 2019). The company has also altered its

local menus to ensure that the local taste is not confronted in any way. For example, since the

company sells products rich in fats, it has adjusted to the case of obesity in the western nations

due to critics in the cultures which has been associated with healthiness associated with its

products and has further adjusted its products to ensure that there are healthier options such as

fruits and salads (Jeon et al., 2016). The company has adjusted its operations to ensure that they

provide healthy foods to its customers across the globe.

Apple Inc. Case

Apple inc. is one of the most successful companies in the United States and across the

globe. It has continued to fight with big tech giants in terms of reachability such as the case of

Facebook, Google, and Amazon. With the expanding technological cultures, the issue of the

pervasiveness of culture has greatly affected Apple and its service delivery to clients around the
5

world (De Aguiar et al., 2019). As such, Apple has by far adjusted its operations to ensure that

they adhere to the cultural requirements of the countries in which they seek to expand to.

Apple in its expansion in such places as India and China and India has continued to focus

on the principles and traditions of the people to ensure that their products adhere to the needs of

the people in these countries (De Aguiar et al., 2019). Due to the threat of information theft, the

company has focused on the maintenance of high levels of secrecy across new cultures to make

sure that its products are accepted by the local cultures (Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). The company

has also focused on the needs of individual cultures in terms of what type of technology people

deem dear to them and what they feel as violating their cultural values. As such, the company

has improved on its management practices to ensure that the products they deliver to new

cultures do not violate the cultural moral codes and that they are in line with the company codes

of ethics (De Aguiar et al., 2019). For instance, in China, the government does not approve of the

use of such applications like WhatsApp and this has become part of the culture. As such, Apple

has advanced its operations to make sure that its products use the applications which are only

allowed in the region.

Bento’s company culture

Bento is one of the successful companies which deals with expense management software

and uses their expertise to help small businesses to be able to manage the debit cards for their

employees. The company has been well known due to its ability to help the employees to be able

to share their experiences, help others and ensure that they lift others in terms of information and

needs in their specific cultures (Reiners, 2019). The company has been more focused on

professional as well as personal development. To extend their mentorship further from the
6

workplace, the company has extended its mentorship to ensure that they deal with the people

beyond the workplace to realize effective organizational cultures (Mate et al., 2019). The

company has continued to grow its culture where it makes all its employees feel valued in every

aspect of their lives and this has, in turn, resulted in professional as well as personal aspirations

in the long run (Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). The company has continued to follow a strong cultural

line which makes their development to new regions to become successful as the cultural values

are instilled even to new employees who work for the company.

Bluecore company culture

Bluecore is one of the most successful retail market platforms which has continued to use

its artificial intelligence platform to improve the company performance. The company has

continued to adhere to the value that the success of the customer is entirely based on their

cultures and this makes the basis of their core values. The company points that culture is driven

by unique sets of values as well as personal entered goals which are key in identifying success

(Reiners, 2019). To be able to show a clear line of their pervasiveness of culture, they develop

their career pathing in the time the employees are at the company. Through career guidance and

coaching in the company, the company has been able to utilize its unique skills in developing

new roles within the company. The company has been able to make the customers, as well as

employee success, be at the basis and this has greatly contributed to the success of the culture of

the company (Reiners, 2019). The company has been able to create an internal and external

brand army in new environments which improves the company culture. The team has been

known to work together to achieve their common goals and through exemplary internal culture

and collaboration for the realization of mutual success.

7

Paxos case

Paxos is one of the greatest blockchain companies which focuses on helping companies

to be able to move products as well as assets from one position to another at extremely

affordable prices (Reiners, 2019). The company has greatly prioritized developing an exclusive

environment which comes up for the new employees who are being hired by the company to be

able to explain themselves and further develop a good environmental culture in the company (De

Aguiar et al., 2019). The company has further engaged with the employees by providing them

with an opportunity to volunteer in the new communities to be able to bond with the new

cultures and realize what should be done in the long run. In the celebrations of such events as

birthdays and work anniversaries, the company connects with the local cultures to ensure they

understand their needs and what should be done to improve their rate of service deliveries

(Nguyen & Hoang, 2021). The company has further continued to build a diverse work

environment through the celebration of diversity and hosting special events which help link the

members to the individual activities in the community (Mate et al., 2019). The company has

further created a culture of inclusivity where they define the best measures to bring the people

together in the company and further ensure that there is a unique bond on how people work

within the organization. The company is expanding to new cultures tends to do groundbreaking

research to ensure that they understand the individual needs of members in the region and further

adjust their work culture to ensure that it is in one with the needs of those in the individual

communities.

Conclusion

The pervasiveness of culture is a crucial element especially in the management practices

across different organizations. Business leaders are required to understand the technicalities of

the organization and what should be done to ensure that the organizational culture is in line with

that of the immediate cultures in which they operate. there is a need to have a positive

relationship between the case of participative management style as well as that of individualism.

In the long run, the collaborative cultural approach helps define which is the correct path that a

company should follow to ensure that the service delivery is well affected and that there is the

eventual conceptualization of the community and organizational culture. As discussed,

companies such as McDonald's, Apple inc., Bento, Bluecore, and Paxos have focused on the

issue of culture and this has, in turn, resulted in the organizational success of the organizations.
