Unit IV Essay: Inspection

Describe what you would do in preparation for an inspection.

Regular safety inspections have become common in many industries around the globe,

both public and private. The inspections help ensure that there is compliance in the place of work

and that they are in line with the risk prevention strategies (Campos, 2019). The inspections take

place either annually or bi-annually and this can be done by the worker, external auditing team,

or in other cases the safety officer (Saurin, 2016). It is thus important to adequately prepare

before a safety inspection is done.

The first step is ensuring that the safety records are kept updated. Having safety records

since they hp in the event there is volatility and when the environments are changing. Another

factor is to take responsibility for safety and not provide the roles of safety to be entirely based

on others in the work environment (Campos, 2019). Another factor is to put oneself in the

inspector's shoes to understand what is needed of them and what can be improved on. One

should also review the records to ensure that what is written in the actual state of events of the

safety inspections done.

Identify the components of a thorough inspection.

A thorough inspection involves a focus on assessing workplace situations and how

operations are done. The first component of an inspection is the critical appraisal of the materials

in the business. The inspector takes a gauge of the activities, tests and gauges their viability in

the business. This is then followed by formal evaluations and when needed, organized

examinations. The inspector then defines whether the materials are in good condition or are in

proper quantity.
3

Explain the right of entry and case law(s) that apply.

According to the right of entry for inspection, it states before the inspector enters the

building, they are required to show compliance to BIMC 1.16.010, unless the case is defined as

that of emergency (Campos, 2019). Without adherence to this code, the inspector does not have

the right to conduct the inspection. The application should be done for the exigent circumstances

when they are extended for a reasonable time (Saurin, 2016). According to the case of Michigan

v. Tyler, there was no adequate determination of the "reasonable" amount of time and this did not

approve the right of entry (Campos, 2019).

Describe how you would conduct an exit interview and its importance.

An exit interview is used to assess the employees' experience in a business and further

come up with opportunities to improve retention as well as engagement (Saurin, 2016). In

conducting the interview, the exit interviews should be done by first setting standards which will

essentially help in risk management (Campos, 2019). This will help in creating a welcoming

environment where the employees can feel belonging and expose their potential in the

workplace.

Identify how you would record violations to ensure compliance.

Failure to record violations can lead to penalties and prosecutions and therefore there is a

need to have a complete checklist for the violations (Campos, 2019). One role is to maintain

confidentiality by recording the facts given for the case with ultimate certainty with the

realization that the information given does not by any chance hamper the secrecy as well as

confidentiality associated with the incident.

4

Relate this activity to your community. Have you noticed any of these violations in

your area? What do you believe to be the top violations in your specific area? How would

you handle remedying them as an inspector?

I have experienced the issue of violation in my community where health inspection

officers have used unscrupulous behaviors which do not align with the goals set. Most inspection

officers use the power they have on reporting cases to extort money from those seeking the

inspection (Saurin, 2016). Due to the hefty penalties, the persons getting inspected tend to fall

into their bribery actions. As a safety inspection personnel, I would avoid any case of bribery as

this results in noncompliance by those being inspected.
