Statement of the Problem

This study seeks to investigate the impacts of environmental factors on the academic performance of
grade 8 students in English Subject in the school of Northern Mindoro Academy Inc.

Especially, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the possible environmental factors that affects the academic performance of Grade 8
students in English Subject?

2. Do the following factors affect the academic performance of Grade 8 students?

a) Temperature

b) Sound

c) Smell

3. How does temperature affect the academic performance of Grade 8 students in English Subject?

4. How does sound affect the academic performance of Grade 8 students in English Subject?

5. How does smell affect academic performance of Grade 8 students in English Subject?

6. Is there a significant relationship between the environmental factors and the academic performance
of Grade 8 students in English Subject?

Definition of Terms
Environment/Environmental - the conditions that surrounds someone or something that can also
influence and affect the growth, health, progress, etc. of something.

Academic – relating to or associated with an Academy or school especially or higher learning.

Performance – an activity that a person or group does to entertain an audience.

Research Objective
Our research objective starts upon knowing the relationship between the Environmental Factors and the
Academic Performance in English Subject of Grade 8 students. We aims to know the effects of the listed
Environmental Factors on the academic performance of Grade 8 students and to identify the possible
reasons on how and why these environmental factors affects their academic performance. We want to
know if sound, smell and temperature affects the academic performance of the students to form and
give a proper and concise solution and information regarding on their situation.
Significance of the study
This study portrays the significance of identifying the environmental factors that affects the Academic
Performance of Grade 8 students in English Subject in the school of Northern Mindoro Academy Inc. It
will help people in having knowledge about the impacts of those disturbing environmental factors in the
academic performance of the students in Grade 8. This research is significant to the following:

The English teacher. The results of the study will benefit the English teacher by knowing the possible
Environmental Factors that affects the academic performance of the students. With this, the teacher will
be more flexible in handling the students.

The students. The results of the study will benefit the students by knowing the possible environmental
factors that may affect on their grades or academic performance. With this, the students will be able to
overcome easily those disturbing environmental factors.

The Parents. The results of the study will benefit the Parents of the students by having some ideas on
the environmental factors that affects the academic performance of their children. By this, they will be
aware on the situation of their children and they will be able to help them overcome the impacts that
can give of these environmental factors in their children's performance in English Subject.

The future researcher. The results of the study will benefit the future researcher by having some
background information about this topic which is the environmental factors that affects the academic
performance of grade 8 students in English Subject. With this, they will have an idea and concrete
information study about the said topic and problems.

Statement of the Hypothesis

1. Temperature as the environmental factor does not affect the academic performance of Grade 8
students in English Subject.

2. Sound as the environmental factor does not affect the academic performance of Grade 8 students in
English Subject.

3. Smell as the environmental factor does not affect the academic performance of Grade 8 students in
English Subject.

4. There is no significant relationship between the environmental factors and academic performance of
Grade 8 students in English Subject.
