Bachelor of Public Administration December, 2022 In movies, heroes are usually portrayed as someone who wears capes and armor with special abilities and supernatural powers. In the dictionary, a hero is defined as "a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities." Hence, I, personally, believe that anyone could be a hero of their own, regardless of the imperfections and disabilities. Over the years of my existence, I have realized that to become a hero wasn’t always about death and sacrifices, it is more of doing the best that you can to contribute ideal changes for yourself, society and to the larger community. A hero is to be accountable with our own actions. Standing for the best decisions not to harm others. We could be a hero in secret, we can be a hero even on our smallest act of kindness. As the eldest daughter of the family, to become a hero is to be a responsible “ate'' and “anak” to the family. I grew up doing side hustles, at the age of 16 I already engage myself in having a part time job during weekends and every summer. Now that I am 21, a part time job is still my thing. And I am proud of it. Because with the little work that I do, I can lend extra money to them, thus, I won't be asking too much money from my parents for my personal expenses. My short list of accomplishments matters and I see that as an opening to thrive a little harder for the dreams that I share with my family. To become a hero for my family, is therefore, to continue growing as an individual. Doing all the best I can, to fulfill my primary role and responsibility which is to become a better sister to my brother and daughter to my parents. As a scholar of the government, I am given the opportunity to access free education and pursue my studies as a Bachelor of Public Administration student at the University of Southeastern Philippines. To study in USeP is one of my answered prayers, I will be forever grateful for these. Hence, to become a hero in school, I should put a thorough effort to hone my skills and broaden my knowledge in order to unlock my full potential as a leader and future public servant. It is also my duty to cultivate my academic path in order not just to help myself, but also to contribute to the improvement of our country. With these privileges, I was given the chance to change not just my current life status, but also take part in the future endeavors of our nation. To become a hero in the academe, is to make use of the knowledge as a weapon to launch change in the societal system. Every hero has one common denominator, it is love. The love they had for the one they are serving. Hence, to follow laws, rules and regulations is one way of becoming a hero in the community. Let us be reminded that to become a hero, you must also think about the welfare of the larger community. Engagement to any illegal activity should not be tolerated, as a citizen of the country, we must be accountable with our actions. As Jose Rizal said, “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” lets live up on his vision, as youth of today, we should become the frontier of change that would prosper our community. Hence, in order to do that, we must train ourselves to always do what is right and thrive to maintain order and justice in our country. To become a hero is to be the voice of positive change. My engagement in the family, school and community leads me to see that in every aspect of my life, I have responsibilities to fill and the role to be accomplished. To be a hero, will not matter how great your accomplishments are, the important thing is you are doing the best you can to influence significant changes. These engagements are the start of our elaborative nation building. Again, we are a hero of our own, we just need to find the appropriate medium to showcase it to the world.
